As the network admin for a wireless ISP, we use Google Earth as a sort of 'first approximation' (along with RadioMobile) to do preliminary site-surveys, estimating whether its even worth our time to roll a truck for an attempted install. This looks like a great addition to an invaluable tool to me!

FYI, I have the Vibrant (T-Mobile variant), and received an OTA update last week. It resolved my GPS issues, and I'm pretty happy with the phone. I just saw a post yesterday that the Galaxy-S phones are rolling out 2.2 (Froyo) in the Scandanavian region now, with updates for the rest of the world coming. Just hang in there...

An Early Look At Civilization V 286

c0mpliant writes "IGN and Gamespot have each released a preview of the recently announced and eagerly awaited Civilization V. Apart from the obvious new hexagon shape of tiles and improved graphics, the articles go on to outline some of the major changes in the game, such as updated AI, new 'flavors' to world leaders, and a potentially game-changing, one-unit-per-tile system. No more will the stack of doom come to your city's doorsteps. Some features which will not be returning are religion and espionage. The removal of these two have sparked a frenzy of discussion on fan-related forums."

I'll bet not one of us has read the response at http://mashable.com/2010/01/13/app-store-piracy/ . Let's do that before hanging someone.

Why would you want to keep the telephone number?

Long term? You don't. But as the world moves to SIP or some other telephony solution that runs on the internet, some people in the world will be stuck for some time on a POTS exchange with a simple phone that can only dial numbers. So what if that exchange didn't have to use the normal international phone network but could use DNS to find a SIP server to route the call to directly over the internet?

But you need to get a nunchuk to play certain games: 25 dollars.

Since when was Player 1's Nunchuk accessory eliminated from the standard bundle?

unless they're some hokey peripheral game like WiiFit, where you're going to pay 100 dollars.

It's not the only peripheral game. Cross-platform peripheral games include DDR, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band, even on your favored X [] O. And if you're including MotionPlus in the Wii's price, do you plan to include Natal in the 360's or Eye in the PS3's?

Want to buy Mario Kart and get two little steering wheel controllers? 90 dollars.

The Wii Wheel is a piece of plastic. There are third-party replacements: after you buy the game and one wheel, additional wheels cost $15 or so.

720x480 is a really low resolution. It doesn't matter what marketing people call it, it's still pixelated and blurry.

I'm using the best output right now and it doesn't look much better than the standard one. There's no interlace-induced flickering - that's about it.

There's a Wii/GC emulator called Dolphin that can render Wii games at any res you like. It looks excellent, way better than the real thing.

Despite the poor resolution they were designed for, Wii games generally have sufficiently high model complexity and texture quality to look quite good in high resolutions. It's a shame it can't be taken advantage of.

Well, suppose your Mom was at a restaurant having dinner, and it got blown up, killing her and most of the rest of the clientele, and you learned that the restaurant was bombed without warning because a "high value target" was supposed to have been there, but wasn't. (This has happened, and it was no accident.) I assume, based on the above, you would feel that "them's the breaks," but I can assure you that many people would conclude that the people dropping the bombs don't really care much as to whether civilians were killed or not, and you don't have to dig very deep to learn that in reality many of the people at the receiving end of such incidents do indeed feel that the people behind the bombs deserve punishment.

Just because you are upset and may want retribution, you are still going to see the distinction between this and someone intentionally killing your mother.

No one said that accidental deaths are meaningless. But jollyreaper was claiming that there is no distinction between the intentional murder and accidental deaths (or even collateral damage). I think stdarg's example was spot on.

They should absolutely tie into the storyline (or at least the same universe). It's easy: either tell the story of the alien ship that the Nostromo found (cool, but unlikely), or just make sure everybody dies, or have the story end up being covered up by the Company, and that's the reason they send the Nostromo to check out that distress signal.
