So let me get this straight. What you're saying is that ADHD is an over diagnosed disease that you personally have been diagnosed with... and what's more, you have found that with the intake of prescribed amphetamine, your attention span increases?
Is it just me, or does it seem like every Slashdotter here that has a girlfriend or wife feels like they have to let everybody else know about their significant other, regardless of how out of context it is to mention them?
I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with this.

Personally, KDE and Gnome both suck. They're both heavy-weight X-Window environments. I like XFCE better because it's simple, doesn't contain all of those "extra applications" I will never use, and is lightweight (IMHO).
Lightweight? Try my current favourite: fluxbox. Weighing in at less than 4 MB for the WM... or Pek at less than 1MB!!
