I'm working at a government agency as a contractor. Not only do they want to outsource the servers, e-mail, v-mail, they even want to outsource the desktop. No, really. When we login, we're actually firing up a win license for our desktop to run the local vdi stuff to get to the real desktop (somehow we're saving licenses, though we aren't). You can't do anything with the local box other than run the vdi client. That desktop - another license or so actually runs our stuff. This is for an agency of more than 5000 people. Guess just how much bandwidth that'll be.

Can't talk them out of it, even though our local cloud desktop solution has been a disaster.

Then if the cloud provider goes belly up, we're done. Bought out, fire, cut wire, you name it. Oh, and I've seen their "security". Ha. The RedHat machine I checked out hadn't even been updated in a year. The Win 2012 server was the CD experience. Supposedly "fed ramp" compliant. Yea, not so much. Don't be dumb. Doesn't need to be automatic. I've been doing it manually for about 20 years. I do monthly backups. Backup is in a commercial grade safe.
Don't need two backups. It's nice, however not necessary. However you should make sure the backup is good.
Don't need a copy off site. In fact, that can be bad. Suppose that other site is raided because it's out of your control and some ass wipe was dealing drugs out of there or something. Now all your data belongs to the Government.

I have a lot of experience with this. Even an old tape, kept in the tape's protective casing left on a desk withstood an arson fire that was put out within a half hour. Put away - survived. Not put away - didn't. Smoke and water got into them. Everything in the safe was just like when we put it in there. Another fire I know about, they had backups in their safe in the basement. No problem. Even though it took a while to get to it because they had to dig what was left of the house from around it.

I'll admit, if you haven't felt the pain of losing data, you won't do it like I do. I lost everything I had almost 30 years ago. I still remember it like it just happened. I'm still mad I can't get that data back. Very painful lesson.

They all suck from time to time. However I've had good luck with seagate. For a while I had really bad luck with WD. Now they're fine again.

Ok, room full of computer guys, all of us are overweight. Way overweight. ALL of us have tried, for around 20 years to lose weight. Even Fen/Phen, etc. All of us are about 100 lbs overweight. Dude tried HCG. We all thought - here we go again. He lost 30 Lbs, then 60, then 90. I lost 90. Everyone else that tried it lost around 90. 100% effective. So that's just plain old water? Some water.

I know, I know... it was the 500 calorie diet and not the water. Oh yea, how come since I've gained 40 of it back because I blew it off... how come I can't lose it without it?

One thing is for sure, I wouldn't be here if I hadn't lost it. Doc told me that.
