Comment This is all allegations (Score 3, Insightful) 312

Before we all get carried away decrying this school district, we must bear in mind that almost all the information we have comes from allegations in a lawsuit. The school district are innocent until proven guilty as far as I'm concerned. I have no reason to trust the family's lawyer over the school district's superintendent. The only concrete fact that the two parties agree on is that the laptops have tracking software. The district says they've only used on stolen laptops, while the lawsuit says that it was used in a disciplinary matter. Time will tell which is most accurate.

Submission + - School District Spying on Students (boingboing.net)

Ma8thew writes: A lawsuit has been filed against the Lower Merion School District by a student's family after a school principle disciplined a student for 'improper behaviour in his home'. It would seem that not only do the school district have the capability to remotely activate the webcams in take-home laptops, they also believe they have a right to monitor students wherever they are in the world.

From Wikipedia:

Giant squid and some other large squid species maintain neutral buoyancy in seawater through an ammonium chloride solution which flows throughout their body and is lighter than seawater. This differs from the method of floatation used by fish, which involves a gas-filled swim bladder. The solution tastes somewhat like salmiakki and makes giant squid unattractive for general human consumption.

This came about as a direct result of the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church meddling in political affairs for centuries.

It's kind of ironic that Catholic Europe and Anglican Britain have ended up becoming some of the most secular places on Earth, despite having little enforced separation of church and state (indeed, the head of the Church of England is also the head of government in the UK), whereas the rigid rules of the US constitution led to possibly the most religious Western nation.

Yout seem to be a pretty transparent poll. I'm amazed two people modded you up, given your basic factual errors. Apple announced and demoed office software at their event, it has 10 hour battery life watching video. Even if in real use it gets half that, it's still pretty amazing. And usability? It means something different than what you think it does.
