I got a 30% discount on one of my cars and an 8% on the other. This is a discount applied over the regular rate that I pay.

So..... it might not be 50%, but the answer to your question is "yeah, pretty much" instead of "crickets."

That's not how it works, actually. Progressive's Snapshot discount doesn't take speed into account at all.

The three things they look at are:

1) How often you drive (miles)
2) What time of day you drive
3) Number of hard stops

I noticed that driving with a Snapshot for 6 months I became a lot more careful of hard stops. I gave other cars more space and drove much more defensively, even though I'm a very defensive driver already.

I think it's safe to assume that an insurance company is interested in metrics that actually correlate well to safe driving, since their business literally depends on it. They want to give the discounts to people who are actually less likely to get into accidents.

Progressive isn't the government. They don't want to just look like they're doing something about a problem. Their bottom line actually depends on it.

Well I expect that the system has several Oracle DBs on the backend already. Remember that this site has to aggregate data from a whole bunch of different federal agencies. Assuming that the site interfaces with at least one Oracle db, having a couple of quality Oracle engineers on-site can do a lot to identify scalability problems, iron out bugs, reprogram things for efficiency, etc.

What are you talking about? Reddit is not publishing official police statements. They're trying to do their own investigation. Last time this happened it was a spectacular failure that implicated two innocent people. Reddit's management clearly does not want that happening again.

The police issued the statement to the press that they were looking for a black Nissan with that license plate. Fox News, a media outlet, published the statement. People with information on this Nissan should contact the police, not Reddit.

The difference is they are the police. That is their job, they are professionals, they have training, and they are accountable.

Reddit users? None of those apply.

Playing the game is one thing. The kid wasn't arrested for playing the game.

Imagine you're a 15 year old high school kid. You just saw Newtown happen. You get a link in your email from a classmate and hit Youtube to see a video some other kid you don't know using this game to "shoot" you and a bunch of your friends in the hallways.

Playing the game and posting the video are two very different things. Posting videos of you "shooting" your classmates calls for some sort of action. That is messed up.

You are completely misinterpreting the post in a really bizarre way. Gay couples live as married couples whether they have the marriage certificate or not. No, they don't get the legal benefits if they're not married but I'm talking about *how they live*. Their personal lives.

I am having trouble understanding your post. The parts you quoting appear basically unrelated to your responses.

This is great. The majority opinion repeatedly makes the point that DOMA stepped on states' toes specifically to HARM a certain group, instead of help it, and that was unconstitutional. The US shouldn't be in the business of denying rights to citizens that states want them to have.

Anyway, this is great. People think that preventing gay marriage is somehow taking a stand against homosexuality or something. News flash: gay couples live as married couples whether you like it or not. The only thing banning the marriage certificate does is punish them for being gay, which is ridiculous beyond belief.

It's not because those games were just particularly amazing, well-written, and well-constructed. It's because those were the games that we grew up with. Those of us in their 30s and early 40s are the ones currently dominating the industry, and we grew up playing King's Quest IV and Monkey Island and Loom and X-Wing etc. We have a fondness for those now because we were kids and those games were the world to us.

Same reason most of us love Voltron and hate Power Rangers, even though they're damn near the same thing.
