Comment Re:Ledger for Best Supporting Actor (Score 1) 317

Rubbish.

When I went to see the film Batman, I was extremely impressed by the performance of the Joker and:

1- Had no idea who the actor was

2- Had no idea he had died.

Had anyone suggested he would win the Oscar - I would have replied: Great! Whoever that guy is - he is absolutely brilliant!

The other actors however paled before him. He did steal the show.

But the problem is that once he died, opinions got divided. People who haven't seen the film went to see it now with very critical pendantic eyes. Looking for - or imagining any - flaw. It's a bit like it's hard to have an unbiased jury if the accused has an article about him written in the press. Or finding a woman of another race attractive when you are racist. Or acknowledging Hitler's watercolours were incredibly beautiful

So his acting was hyped.
Making it harder to be objective.

Heath is an actor's actor. If you ever trained yourself to be one, you would appreciate the incredible talent.

But if you try to find any fault - because of some emotional bias - well you will find many.

I have a feeling that most people that think his acting was over-rated or bad, would have a second more honest / sombre opinion had he: not been famous or dead.

I had a really bad experience with Orange Box. Long story.

Anyway, I don't have a Windows PC any more - that one blew up.
But I began missing playing games like Grand Theft Auto and so on.

I am scared of this DRM thing.
I hear so many bad things about GTA 4 because of DRM issues - I keep wondering if ALL games are DRM-locked as standard these days. I keep postponing investing on a new Gaming Machine.

Fear of purchasing is the worse feeling towards a business. It's worse than boycotting.

RIAA or Not - People do feel scared of buying a DVD movie or Audio CD. But with DRM people are feeling nervous about purchasing Games that end up messing with your PC.

I agree.

I am very possibly one of the best SEO consultant / webdesigner on this planet but am such a crap salesman business person it seems I am destined to die in utter poverty.

Ah well such is life ...

I am so-and-so with graphic design. A tad above the mediocre but not more. Say 6 out of 10.

But worse of all is writing. Copy-writing Web-writing totals 80% of my time / energy spent on a new project.

Yes, there is a fix, but not so straightforward.

But it boggles the mind, how can a site directed for Linux users, not be tested under a few common Linux distros.

The content management system for Linux.com seems to be written with Xaraya.

Do they test and develop the site under Windows though?

Valve/Steam is nasty. I've purchased the Orange Box legit, to play on a Windows computer that was given to me. I've added the Orange Box games to PC previous owner's Steam account. Some games were there present, I thought of added a few more, in fact I was even left with 3 extra games I could "donate" (as they were also present). Played HL2 and Portal for a bit, had my fare share of fun, then stopped playing for 6 months. Then recently wanted to check out Team Fortress 2.

Now I don't know what happened, but it would refuse to log me in (cookies reset?). Now I can't contact the original owner of the PC. But I couldn't play any game (even the ones that were "surplus"). People told me I still could claim my original games as long as I contact Steam and scan a copy of my original receipt. As if I keep these things .. as if I have time also = easier to buy a new one, but that would be too wrong paying for a product twice.

Little or big annoyances like that is what makes people hate DRM so much and the industry that endorses it. People don't necessarily hate DRM because they are closet pirates. But because they often have to pay for a crime they have not committed. They are deemed guilty and untrustworthy before anything else. It's patronising and offensive - and yet many put up with that.

DRM will always count as a negative when deciding to buy software or games in future. I just can't put with the hassle anymore. I didn't know BioShock was DRM, so thanks for telling me, I won't be spending my money on that now.
