Video Epson Tries to One-up Google Glass with Moverio-Goggles (Video) 65

In the world of head-worn displays, Google Glass seems to lately get most of the praise as well as most of the dirty looks, though it's far from alone. At this year's DroidCon in London, I talked with Epson Europe product manager Marc-Antoine Godfroid about a very different kind of head-worn display: the Moverio BT-100. Epson's display is running a Google operating system, but it isn't competing with Glass, at least not directly. The hardware in this case is a relatively high-definition stereo display meant for immersion (whether that means information overlays or watching recorded video) hooked to an external control unit running Android, rather than the sparer, information-dashboard, all-in-one approach of Glass. One other big difference: Epson's stereo, full-color headset is cheaper than Glass, and available now. Hit the link below to see what it looks like.

Students in Shanghai performed so well in math that the OECD report compares their scoring to the equivalent of nearly three years of schooling above most OECD countries.

Not sure about math, reading and science, but clearly my geography is bad. I had no idea Shanghai was a country.

Your reading doesn't seem to be up to much either. Nowhere in that sentence does it even imply that Shanghai is a country.

Yes, lots of HR departments in the Silicon Valley advertising for ex-cons with tech skills. This is a great way to spend tax payer money. Let's double down and spend a few billion (in a State with serious financial issues no less) educating ex-cons that can't get security clearance and who are untouchable by HR.

What would you prefer we do then? Let prisons go on functioning as crime academies where the only thing the inmates learn is how to commit even more crime as soon as they're released?

Chicago State University Lawyers Attack Faculty Bloggers 94

An anonymous reader writes "A blog run by faculty members at Chicago State University (CSU) has been threatened by university lawyers with a cease and desist notice. Since 2009 the blog has posted information critical of CSU's policies and hiring practices. The notice threatened legal action if the site is not disabled by Friday due to violations of 'trade names and marks' without permission and violations of University policies. The blog admin changed the name of the blog in the meanwhile to Crony State University and replaced an image on the page pending legal counsel. Also the blog is currently still active."

One Year Since John McAfee Fled Belize 66

Velcroman1 writes "It has been a year since fallen software magnate John McAfee fled his adopted home and country — wanted by police for questioning in connection to the murder of his neighbor. In that year, the often eccentric programming pioneer led the media and the public on a wild ride with his outlandish behavior and off-the-wall statements during a catch-me-if you-can escape from the small Central American country. McAfee is a person of interest in the investigation surrounding the murder of his neighbor, American ex-pat Gregory Faull, near his compound in San Pedro Town on the island of Ambergris Caye. No headway has been made in the investigation — and authorities in Belize are still looking to speak with McAfee. 'Nothing has really changed. It's not a closed case,' police spokesman Raphael Martinez said. 'He is still a person of interest.'"

Submission + - Yahoo's email catastrophe (zdnet.com)

fiannaFailMan writes: Yahoo recently revamped their email service and it has been met with widespread hostility. Many features had been removed but most contentious is the obliteration of tabs. So far nearly 100,000 people have called for tabs to be restored on the Yahoo voice feedback page. Other issues that have had fewer votes have been fixed, but the lady does not seem to be for turning on this one. There are also reports of widespread service disruption. I have been unable to access the service at all since yesterday either from desktop or iPhone, and can't even get in there to retrieve my contacts. Being cut off from email has been a humbling reminder of how much we have come to rely on cloud services.

Don't give me your racist's last defense, the first amendment, because it doesn't work.

Here is the news, mad hatter. The first amendment only stops the government from censoring you. It doesn't stop a private citizen or organization from silencing you. I can still tell you to shut up. So shut your racist trap, you intellectually-challenged racist prick.
