How would having a big "Click here to report this person" button help? If they're willing to meet up, then they're obviously not suspicious about the person's intentions. Even a big flashing "Are you sure this person isn't going to try and do nasty things to you?" banner on screen would quickly be ignored and forgotten about

That's a good point - I guess you wouldn't replace your main locks with central locking, but you *would* replace the secondary dead bolts with them. That way you know you can press a single button and have every window/door bolted (or something will beep to tell you it can't lock one of them) but you can also still lock the doors in a regular manner too, for added security.

Considering that the activation code has 5 alphabetic characters, I'd guess the process works something like:

Frame requests a page based on its MAC
Server has no record, so it generates a new feed, creates a (random?) activation code, and logs this in its database
User sees the message, enters the activation code online, which is retrieved from the db.

5 digits doesn't give many options. What happens if they all get used up when people start scanning and generating fake IDs? Will the database just fall over, and be unable to activate new frames at all?

Move Over BoxeeBox, Here Comes PopBox 117

DeviceGuru writes "Following closely on the heels of the December announcement of D-Link's BoxeeBox, Syabas Technology today said it will ship the PopBox, a $129 Internet-based A/V streaming set-top box (STB) in March. Both new gadgets have the potential to give Roku's popular STB a run for its money. All three boxes can deliver a range of Internet-based A/V streaming and social networking services to consumers' TVs. Like Roku's digital video player STB, the PopBox will include Netflix on-demand video streaming when it first ships. D-Link, meanwhile, is rumored to be scrambling to add Netflix streaming support to its BoxeeBox device as well, prior to inaugural shipments of that device. All three run embedded Linux OSes, and all are expected to sell for less than $200."

Nooo! You just brought back the memories of OCP Art Studio on the speccy that I'd somehow managed to block!

Thankfully my parents took pity on me and bought me a copy of The Artist II on floppy (+3 baby!) which made my mouse adaptor birthday present actually useful!
