Google Earth As a Game Engine For Ship Simulation 84

dinther writes "Yesterday the program Ships was released. Ships is significant because it is the first serious application that uses Google Earth as a game engine. In Ships, you take control of a selection of ships and drive them around the world (if you have that much time). Building games around Google Earth is now viable, thanks to its ever-increasing level of detail. From a technical standpoint, the Google Earth browser plugin has proven to be quite a capable platform to work with. Further tech details about the application are available as well."

Map Editor, Photoshop Tool Coming To Braid 44

Erik J writes "Braid creator Jonathon Blow has revealed that a map editor and image tool will be added to the popular puzzle game. First, though, Braid will receive a patch to fix some issues players have reported. Blow explains: 'After I get a new version out in a few days that fixes the problems some people are having, and when more people have played/finished the game, I am going to post some documentation for the editor. The way it works is you can make levels with the editor (up to a full game, potentially) and run that with -universe later... also a tool will be released that lets you take Photoshop files and import them into the game, if you want to put new graphics in your levels.' It is unclear if these capabilities are coming only to PC or to the Xbox 360 version as well."

what would be far more useful is an easy way to do single sign on between applications for a single website. I know LDAP exists, but it seems pretty complicated, or you can use half broken bridges, but somethign really simple would be incredibly useful. Or is there something I missed.

Our local council streams it's planning meetings over the web. This is very useful if you can't attend in person (and you can do something else in the boring bits). But you're right - a 3d world is overkill. Static web pages convey this information much better - and most likely already exist in some form. If they really want to get citizens to be more involved then they should write some applications for facebook etc. and exploit a social network that already exists.
