Today I did a perfect banana peel toss! It landed in the middle of the lane, point up! Tossing banana peels is an art form.

My work truck is an F350 loaded down so much that a fat co-worker and a full tank of gas would put you over the legal GVWR. The back window is blocked by the tool box, and so the rearview mirror is harmlessly pointed to the roof. We had a spring safety meeting where the focus was on driving safety, and how it is company policy that if there is a passenger present, he must get out and direct you back. After the meeting we all jumped in the trucks and took off. Not one guy directed the truck out. We got to lunch and the boss had a big vein sticking out of his neck while he yelled at us. We all hung our heads in shame appropriately. Still don't do that though. If you have situational awareness, and back in to a spot, it's no problem.

I hear ya. When you have real weather from one extreme to the next, it seems you need a different pair of shoes each month. I agree on the hip waders. Got rain? No prob. Too hot? Go stand in the lake/river. Too cold? Neoprene is warm. Wife trying to drag you somewhere fancy? Show up in your waders and you might get off the hook.

I have dress shoes, old running shoes (for dirty work) medium aged running shoes for walking around town, new running shoes for... running, casual shoes, slip on steel toe boots (great for mowing the lawn or stepping into the garage), winter work boots, summer work boots, over boots (go over the winter work boots when the work boots alone don't cut it) sandals for the beach, sandals for the river, sandals for drinking in the backyard, hiking boots, gum boots, snowboard boots, slippers, and last but not least, the neoprene waders.

I tell the wife that if I didn't have so many responsibilities, I wouldn't need so many pairs of shoes! I keep them in small groups of 3 or 4 pairs so it doesn't look so bad.

Totally agree! I saw one of these on a $65M USD world class yacht that I was installing a navigation camera on. Beautiful system that is almost as convenient as ripping the bloody movies, but goes to GREAT length to accommodate the "law" as it stands.

Who wants to be the lucky dog to tell the billionaire owner of the yacht that he has to now switch DVDs like the rest of us because he isn't "allowed" to have the disks pre-loaded on his Kaleidescape that he paid $40,000 to $80,000 for? While I was working on the yacht, I remember the Captain getting a box of DVD's from a crew member to catalog and put into the cargo hold. It was understood that if the movie is loaded into the system, the disk has to stay on board. I was shocked that they'd even care, but I guess if you have deep pockets you become a big target? Funny way to treat your customers, especially seeing as these are the guys who'd sign a blank cheque to just buy one of every movie in case they ever get the urge to watch it.

This is EXACTLY the problem with climate science.

A guy brings up a relevant point on the fact that the science has an effect on our society, and then is torn to pieces by the carbon haters and the carbon lovers without ever hinting at which side of the argument he sits on.

Me personally, I dislike that I have been saddled by another tax in an already grim economic time. If it wasn't so hit and miss with basic survival right now, I might see it a bit differently. That being said, if we could have emotionless and politic free discussions on the whole issue, we'd all be better off. I'd like to know what the truth is, but just like the guy standing on my doorstep with his own translation of the bible, I want to know what your agenda is before I want to hear how I should change my life. Also, when your man at the top is profiting from me making another financial sacrifice, I better at least be able to see some open scientific discussion.

Ha ha ha... that reminds me of this time... oh... 10 years ago. There was this guy at work that had just bought a 2kg block of cheese from Costco, and the power went out. He was so worried about his cheese spoiling that he sat down and ate the whole block of cheese. Couple hours later, the power came back on.

We did have an extended power outage due to a forest fire once where people were evacuated for 2 weeks. When they returned, they were told to move their fridges/freezers to the end of their driveways without opening them due to health concerns. Friends that were affected lost a lot of garden produce. The appliances were replaced by insurance/government assistance. Having an electric car tied to your home would have helped because I doubt it would have had the range to evacuate from the fire. As it was some of the towns along the evacuation route had to pack in generators to power the fuel pumps to pump fuel for people to evacuate.

I'm fortunate enough to live in a province with a government run power monopoly who's mandate is to provide stable power instead of cheap power. We rarely have power outages and pay $0.667/kWh to $0.962/kWh for power (depending on consumption) that's almost entirely generated by hydro. I guess hydro-electric dams must be able to quickly scale for demand because we do not have day/night rates.

Bring the design to my house with a case of beer and a stack of pizza!!!

I use Eagle Cad (Horrible to learn, yet powerful), print onto glossy magazine paper, iron onto Cu clad (I have a stack of 3"x4"), etch with Ferric Chloride, drill with my dremel, then solder.

We should have your prototype ready before we run out of beer and pizza.

That reminds me of a time I went fishing with a buddy on a hot summer day. Both of us had grandfathers who died fishing (that's how I wanna go... one day) so we don't generally drink while boating. After fishing all day in the hot sun, we were headed back down the lake and saw something floating in the lake. Being the kind of guys who prefer not to leave garbage in our pristine lakes, we headed towards it and I scooped it out with the net. Imagine my surprise when I pulled out a sealed can of Budweiser!

Generally I like hoppy/bitter beers with lots of flavour, but that can of bud covered in a couple weeks worth of algae fresh from a glacial lake... absolutely delightful!

I like that my friends drink cheap beer (mostly Old Milwaukee). Why would I want to bring expensive beer over for someone else to drink? I save the craft beers for when I'm drinking alone... with my dog! (You're not drinking alone when your best friend is with you, are you?)

Nice! Creosote FTW!!!

I never liked beer until I was stuck framing a house with my uncle on a hot summer day. At the end of the day they started handing out beer, and wanting to fit in (I was young and insecure at the time) I had one. Wow, what an amazing flavour!

Now my quest in life is to find the perfect beer recipe to follow scotch. It's a bit expensive, but Innis & Gunn make an oak aged beer that is marvelous. The idea (in my beer/scotch world) is to have a glass of scotch, then switch to beer. If you keep drinking scotch all evening, you'll either have to stop drinking at some point, or going to work tomorrow's going to be rough. This way you can enjoy the scotch, then switch to a beer that compliments the scotch, and sip it all evening.

Mmm... I'm gonna try oak chips in my primary fermentor... maybe some chopped up railway ties for the above mentioned creosote...

Everything in moderation, including creosote?
