Not so much anymore. They just march to a different beat.
For example - Russians still use tubes. Not because they're backwards - rather that tubes are immune to EMP.
Ponder on the implications of that. A couple of good EMP's detonated at strategic points - bwahahaha our nukes still work.

likening Google's fees to Apple's fees was more about how they're still expecting apps that move to external payment to pay Google for having access to Play Services

I feel that Google will still run afoul of EU antitrust there. Developers can credibly argue that the value they add to Google's platform is more than the cost of whatever services Google provides them, and that they are therefore being extorted via market power into paying extra feeds. In the alternative, developers can argue that the cost to Google of providing those services is vastly less, pro rata, than the fees they charge, which amounts to the same thing.

Both Apple and Google are waving a red cape at the EU antitrust bull, with "a new Core Technology Fee that required developers to pay 0.50 euros for each first annual install per year over a 1 million threshold for apps distributed outside the App Store". This is clearly an abuse of market control, Apple's lame excuse notwithstanding. Pretty safe to predict more multi-billion dollar fines coming down the pipe for both recidivist scofflaws.

Also, Windows likes to reboot itself a lot. Linux doesn't require reboot on OS update (unless you want a new kernel). Windows does, and it updates insanely often, and takes insanely long to install the update. The technical term for this is "denial of service". Windows even rebooted on me in the middle of conference calls a couple of times. This alone is why I don't use Windows for serious work.

I run Ubuntu at home .. I can play 90+% of the games on Steam via proton. Oh yeah my video card alone, RX 6850xt has 12GB of RAM. I can edit. .docx and .xslx if needed in Libre office. Blender , Gimp and a plethora of other things run FASTER than in winblows.. I can see some small office software that won't run on Linux or needing to run the Adobe tools in you are a photographer. However for everything I need to do at home it works fine. So many things run in a browser now. Linux runs fine AND IT PLAYS MORE GAMES THAN A MAC. Other than some specialized small business or Photo software what can Linux NOT do??

A 1300 dollar laptop with 8 gigs of ram a 256GB nvme. WTF am I supposed to do with that ? Read email and Play candy crush ? I can do that with my phone ? Seriously Apple needs to be shipping their base systems with 16 gigs of ram and 512Gb nvme. It's just sad. Waiting for the Apple fanboys to mod me to -1 because I hurt their feelings.
