Sure there is; we re-establish the Republic. Put the emphasis back onto the States and away from the Federal Government. What is happening today is exactly why the Constitution was laid out the way it was. (not that it stopped it).

First step? Repeal the 17th Amendment; turn the Senators back into wards of the State Legislatures. When they have to actually represent the States they have come from and not their own self-interests (who *really* pays attention to what they did 5 years ago at election time), then some of the dumber legislation items might die on the vine.

Ain't saying its perfect, but we gotta start someplace.

I read an article a few months ago that suddenly became relevant. Original Article (behind register wall) Dhani Harrison, told the Chicago Tribune in an interview that he is "working on 'Rock Band 3' and making the controllers more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game".

I cannot find reference to it anywhere else. If true, it could make it worth looking at.

Go read the Senate Bill. Yes, that is the correct one to read because that is the one they are trying to ram through the House.

Specifically, go find the provisions about the how any business that expends 10% or more of their expenses on health care and offload it to the Government for the low-low price of only 8% off the top.

Now you tell me a single business that would look at that and NOT take it. The "option" is now forced upon the employees because the company made a business decision. Since the "Government Option" will work across State lines, something that is illegal for private insurance companies to do, it will become harder and harder for insurance companies to compete with the Government option, in effect, killing those private insurance companies.

Congratulations, the US Government now has more control over your life and your money... last I checked, I thought we were against that.

I did the "Mom Test"; it has been pretty reliable for testing tech things.

Here is the exact conversation:
me : 'Mom, I want you to change your IE search engine from Bing to Google.'
Mom: 'Why? What's the difference?'
me : 'Google is better.'
Mom: 'Nah, it doesn't matter to me, I just type what I want in there and the results show'
me : 'Can you at least try?'
Mom: 'Fine, where do I do it?'
me : '(start explaining)'
Mom: 'No, no, no, forget it, that's too complicated. Stop with the geek talk; I'm still confused on how Foxfire (sic) can use the same Internet as Windows... how do you expect me to figure this out?'

A lot earlier than you think. To have received this award, the absolute *latest* he could have been nominated for it was 11 DAYS into his Administration. Not months, not week, DAYS, because that is when the nominations closed. Whether you think he deserves it or not, 11 days is NOT enough time to decide anything, let alone this prize.

Repeal the 17th Amendment. Restore the Republic and restore the State's right to appoint their Senators. This will go a long way towards bring them back under the control of the individual States and not the PAC with the largest donation. (yes, we need other safe guards in place for the whole process, but this is the place to start.)
