Comment When will they take reported comments seriously? (Score 1) 225

When will they start taking reports of anti-semetic hate speech seriously? It seems that if you call someone a "wuss" for using a community page to troll and make anti-christian and anti-jewish statements instead of their personal account, you will get banned from posting and liking for 3 days if the person in question identifies as gay as well as deleting your relatively inoffensive remark/challenge to use a personal account instead so that we can block them. However, if you report one of those same people for hate speech against a religious or ethnic group, nothing will happen to them and the comment will not be deleted regardless of how many times people report their hate speech.

Equality means equal responsibility and equal application of punishments as well as privileges. Why is hate speech against christians and jews tolerated by facebook reviewers and why is calling someone a "wuss" grounds for a temp ban?

Are you an environmentalist? Do you drive a car, fly on jets for vacation trips? Do you drive cars on road trips? If so, then you do not practice what you preach. If you believe carbon credits in any way benefit the environment then I have a bridge to sell you.

Live your life the way you preach to others before you preach.

All you greenies do is talk about how "we" should change but "you" do absolutely nothing yourselves. What to help the planet? Plant a tree, move closer to your work, sell your car and instead use car sharing services and transit. Stop telling "us" what to do and make definitive changes yourselves.

I am not a greenie and I don't tell others what they should or should not do but I don't drive a car by choice and it has nothing specifically do do with being an "environmentalist".

I think iOS updates have to jump through the same carrier hoops as Android. The difference is that Apple only has a small number of devices that need to be tested so it's faster and easier for them to roll out updates.

I am sure carriers are given beta testing access but I doubt they have a veto on updates because the update, barring hardware differences on models, is the same for all iOS devices. So the core of the OS is the same on a Verizon, Sprint or AT&T phone but only differs in the cell radio firmware portion.

Google doesn't make the version of Android that goes out on e.g. Samsung phones. Google can patch 4.3 ll they want, but it's up to Samsung to take the patch, implement it, test it on all their devices, then get blessing from the various carriers to send it out. Given there's still people out there with S3s (and probably S2s) there's no chance they're going to put the effort into it and instead tell people to get the shiny new S5.

Should not matter. If they are patching the core, the core should be available for updating by google directly by alerting the user of a needed patch. The customization should not be touching the core of the OS.

Even if they patched it for 4.3, there is approximately zero chance that it would be pushed out as an update by anyone.

Hindsight is 20/20 but they could have copied the idea from Apple where a process would periodically check for vulnerabilities in the background. They could patch the vulnerable component through a google updater on the phone. I don't think most vulnerabilities would require a new ROM for the phone.

I'm still trying to figure out (for my wife) what magical, unintuitive process will get all her epubs and mkv files to open on her iPad Air 2. It's a royal clusterfucking pain. We used to have an arcane process but that broke with the latest itunes.

At least this pain is bringing home the realization that Apple isn't easy to use, doesn't just work, and can't be trusted for pretty much anything.

Really? For your MKV files, load them into the storage directory of the player that can play them through iTunes. For epubs, you can load them into the the storage folder for iBooks. Google it.

Put down that peyote and realize that you are a human so where do you get off saying "you humans". Go read Ecclesiastes and know that every human accomplishment is meaningless in the grand scheme of things and every pleasure you seek is also meaningless. Seek god if you want to be happy. Solomon is the man who wrote Ecclesiastes and he tried to find fulfilment in every sensual pleasure, every field of learning and owning every possible possession available to him. None of that gave him true happiness. Only those who know and fear the lord will attain true happiness and fulfilment in their life.

Only the fearful and diffident shall be happy and fulfilled? Oh tell us more doubleplus good speak.

*WOOOOOOOOOOOOSH*
The point you missed is that the acquisition of "things" or seeking to experience all manners of "sensual" pleasure do not result in longterm fulfilment or happiness. Solomon had more gold that any of us will ever have. He could buy what he wanted any time that he wanted. Fear is this case would be awe, reverence or respect for the power of god. That is much different than living in paralyzing "fear". Some fear can be healthy as it helps you stay out of trouble. When you look at something like the Niagara falls in person, does it give you terror or does it cause a sense of awe? Does that feeling give you a positive sense of euphoria? Now imagine a god who created all of that awe inspiring power, other inspiring phenomenon and the universe itself. Now consider such a being caring about you personally. Wild, if you actually think about it even as a thought experiment.

I can somewhat relate to Solomon. I used to be into acquiring things and travelling around the world experiencing new things but I found that none of that ever really gave me lasting joy.
