Submission + - Disturbing trend with computer hardware? 1

yakatz writes: I have noticed over the last few months that I have had many requests for just-out-of-warranty service for hardware problems.
For example, a customer with a 13-month old computer gets "USB over current error" on ever boot.
I tried contacting Dell, since I have been having the most trouble with Dell computers. Dell regular tech support and Dell parts keep directing me to Dell out-of-warranty support, who wants to charge me a fortune just to re-diagnose that a USB port is broken.
At this point, some of my customers have given up and would just buy the replacement parts, but Dell is making it very hard to obtain exactly the same parts.
I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this trend? Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with these issues (i.e. talking to manufacturers, not diagnosing the problems)?

Submission + - Small Shop vs. Large Antivirus Company 1

An anonymous reader writes: I am the owner of a niche software company which started up a few years ago. Sales have been fair, and I have high hopes for the future. However, I recently learned from would-be customers that a popular antivirus product reported our software package as a trojan. I quickly verified that this was not the case, and the antivirus company has issued an update that corrects this error. When I asked them to notify their users through a webpage on their site, they refused. Thus, I am left to convince our customers that our software is safe. Is there any recourse for our company?

Submission + - Iran bans Gmail (wsj.com)

ACKyushu writes: Iranians have reported widespread service disruptions to Internet and text messaging services, though mobile phones appeared to be operating normally Wednesday.

Iran's telecommunications agency announced what it described as a permanent suspension of Google Inc.'s email services, saying instead that a national email service for Iranian citizens would soon be rolled out. It wasn't clear late Wednesday what effect the order had on Google's email services in Iran.
