They changed "master" to "main" so really we can't get any lower.
Humans can't live without religion. If we discard an old one we simply invent something new to take its place, and clearly aren't up to the task.
This is so true, and I've been pointing it out for decades now. One might not like the old religions, but at least they stood the test of time and had a thousand plus years for people to debate and come up with some consistency.
When I read stuff like this, I just shake my head. They're saying younger people can't handle feedback so they have to change the word to "feedforward", but it's the same concept. (I'd not that my spellchecker didn't underline "feedforward", so clearly all the cool kids are using this word already). At some point they'll realize they don't like "feedforward" and it'll be something else. Endlessly.
By the way, I still use "master" as the master branch on my code repos, and I still sleep in the master bedroom. Because *neither* of those things have anything to do with slavery and changing my words isn't going to change the fact that slavery happened in this country up to 160 years ago and *still* happens today in the world.
I wish the people who are so concerned that we don't use the word "master" for our bedroom would give half as many fucks about the fact that people are still enslaved RIGHT NOW and no amount of hand wringing over vocabulary will change that.
Nobody who owns a short-term rental wants this, and there are devices sold online that monitor the space for noise level, smoking, etc.
the grid would need upgrading to deal with acess generation of an inremittent nature that is distributed.
Local generation takes load off of the grid. Adding more neighborhood generation means LESS need for grid improvements.
Not sure why this is marked down. I don't care if I'm feeding the grid, rather, I'd like to see the grid as my backup in case I can't generate enough power.
Every roof of every kind should be a solar panel.
Yeah - it's pretty close to how it works in Europe. It covers 4 years, though, not just 2, and it pays 100% at plenty of community colleges.
This is a better model, anyway. Tell everybody "here's how much we'll pay" and the free market is able to say "well, we can provide an education at that price".
Thatâ(TM)s how it works in Tennessee and I think Kentucky as well. Not sure why everybody points to Europe.
If I recall correctly there were some scientists a good while back who wanted to know how strong a silverback gorilla was. They placed an 800 pound object somewhere he used to come through to see if he could lift it.
Silverbacks can lift 800 kilos

A silverback can bench press around 4000 lbs. - basically, a car.
By the way, that's without working out. Humans can bench press over 800lbs., but that's with years of training and likely some hormonal help.
You'd have about as much success at that as trying to hijack a plane and crash it into the WTC post 9/11. Every hijacking attempt since then has ended in pain and humiliation for the would-be hijacker.
Remember like two months ago when this was supposedly a crazy right-wing conspiracy theory?
Obviously China isn't going to let you investigate if it thinks you will immediately turn round and use the freshly printed peer reviewed paper to beat them over the head with.
Huh? So if it does turn out China's lax lab caused the deaths of 10s of millions we should
Right. And we now know that the "lab leak theory" is what happened, otherwise China would gladly help out to show what actually happened.
I've been amazed over the years at how much obviously foreign activity takes place here, and it's clear that China takes this site somewhat seriously although clearly less so than in prior years.
Sometimes China does things just to let the US know it can be trouble if it wants to be.
I agree with this. I laugh when I see people talking about fighter jets and such. It's a freaking balloon. The proper response is to get a couple of guys in a cessna with a shotgun to fly up and put a hole in it. It'll come down slowly and likely not be damaged substantially by the landing. Then we can see what it is. If the Chinese are watching they'll realize that the US isn't like China. Win win.
It's sonar, used when setting up wind farms. Of course, everybody's jumping on one side or the other, but a lot of whales are dying right now:

Hard to know what's real.
Online contracting places I've used before had the option of requiring the contractor to install screen-shot software on their computer so you can see what they're doing while they're supposed to be working. It's an interesting concept but assumes that they have only one computer (unlikely). I usually do fixed-bid contracts so I don't care what they're doing - I care that I get the end result.
