Comment Re:Cory Doctorcunt (Score -1, Troll) 112

Wish I had mod points. I don't know why he has 'cred' with some people, he's not particularly good and his stuff is derivative. His time with Boing Boing also demonstrated his (ironic) tendency to be a censor fanatic regarding anyone who wasn't as far (and I mean FAR) left as he and Xeni Jardin were.

Wow... ignorance runs deep in this one. Seriously, you've only heard of 2 of these? I find that almost impossible to believe, your parents and school failed you clearly -- or you simply don't read. Then again the "activist pieces of crap" remark tells us volumes, pun intended.

Comment Re: Organic Doctorow hate (Score 3, Informative) 43

I was going to say the same, he and Xeni Jardin were the most obnoxious hypocrites when it came to censorship on BoingBoing, if you didn't post/reply with something from the FAR left, it was removed and often person was banned/suspended etc. I also don't find his writing particular novel, insightful or that interesting -- lots others do it better imo.

Comment Not AI (Score 4, Insightful) 14

The way people use the term now, it seems every automated process, algorithm or piece of logic is AI. It's not Intelligence. It's just getting annoying. AI is the new marketing buzzword, and like most marketing people, they don't know what the fuck they're talking about nor do they care (as long as they get clicks or sales)

Microsoft's .NET framework is centered around C# (though it supports other languages, that's its core) so you'll have a lot of MS .NET devs who use C#. There is a lot of C# development going on, regardless of if you hate MS etc.

And as much as I love working with Epic's Unreal Engine (C++ based), Unity is much more approachable with C# and the learning curve is not as steep due to (imo) they way they designed their dev tools. Unreal is amazing, but it takes a lot of time and effort to get comfortable with it, you can get going in Unity comparatively quickly.

Comment Accents? (Score 5, Informative) 283

US viewer here, we tend to watch a lot of shows (in English) with international casts -- my wife has a hard time with Scottish and some English accents, we also like some Asian / Middle Eastern programs that are in English, but the accents can sometimes be a bit tricky to pick up, especially when as others said, you pile of muddy sound to begin with and obnoxiously loud sound tracks or effects.

Comment Distinction between Internet and Social Media (Score 5, Insightful) 284

GenX'er here. I think there may be a big distinction between the 'classic' internet of old for say web browsing, old forums, shopping, ordering food etc., and then what came with social media -- Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, etc.

I'd be curious if the poll made a distinction if it would be different, I think many generations might still want the internet but have come to see the problems with social media.

Not a fan of facial rec / tracking as a rule, but for those of us who follow football, there's also been some serious assholes out there who should never be let into a stadium again.

However, what I'm not sure of is connecting it with law enforcement, ban them from the stadiums or block their social media, etc., but when they say "Discrimination is a criminal act" are they saying they're trying to criminalize some football hooligans for social media posts -- that's a slippery slope.

Comment Price point (Score 4, Insightful) 103

The laughable $3500 price point probably had Zuck breathing a sigh of relief, even Apple fanatics will have to pause at that price. I have an older (now) HTC Vive Pro, and while I like it, I can't see what Apple is offering, especially in terms of games and its walled garden, that would in anyway tempt me to drop that amount of cash (yes, I know it's more than just VR, it's AR too etc, but it's features don't particularly interest me). I'll probably get a new VR/AR headset at some point, but will stay in the $400-500 range.

Sidenote: while the Vision Pro no doubt is more comfortable than my Vive Pro, I still find I only want to wear it for short periods of time. I can't see doing an 8 hr day it -- I wonder about long term affects on vision and other unknowns with heavy continual use, I feel like I always need a bit of an adjustment time visually when leaving VR environments.
