Comment Volume (Score 2) 119

It is normal for the postal service to hire extra staff around Christmas to handle added volume. But they can't always do that (appears to be a problem in quite a few areas). Plus the postal service took over for UPS delivery of Amazon packages.

So, what is the solution? Hire more temporary staff, if you can, or see a lot of complaints.

A different solution is for Amazon to hire more delivery drivers and take that new volume away from USPS, but that puts the post office in a more precarious position.

They could just convince people to stop buying packages. (like that's going to happen!)

So many ventures have such skeptical ideas at their foundation, and yet gather millions of dollars in funding for them.

"We will rent offices to people who can't afford an office!" Maybe they didn't need an office, but thought it would be nice?

"We will have computers doing the thinking for people if you just give us money!" Did your computer come up with that idea?

We've always had companies trying and failing to advance some idea. It's just become easier to throw lots of money at them today... and complain in a while how we were fooled about the basic idea, or otherwise didn't know it was a stupid idea at the start.

Is this a fix for Win11, or a new version? Description seems to be "Windows 11.23H2 new feature release," rather than patches to fix problems found in version 11.

If I have and like v11, can I just have the patches for what I have, without changing everything, or will this be equivalent to changing to a new operating system, just with the same name?

You mean, going back to how they were working when products came out regularly, instead of recent work-from-home time?

I've worked with Amazon on projects. Things started in the last two years, when employees were often working from home, have died incomplete. Things started several years ago, when employees were always in the office, were completed and running.

The past two years have not seen a lot of projects conceived and brought to customers. You know, when they were all "happy" to be working from home.

ANY company that has half the people quit because they want them to show up in the office 16 hours a week should have that right. If you say it's because of a union, then the union demanding the workers should NOT show up 16 hours per week is making unreasonable demands.

Does it "fix things" if it's company X? No, it doesn't. But, it apparently makes good headlines.

A lot of companies are requesting people show up at least twice per week. Some are requesting more than that. Does that make them all evil?

I own a car with heated/cooled seats. I've even tested them.

However, they aren't used. My nephew loves them, firing them up each of the dozen times he's been in the car in the 4 years or so that I've owned it. They were part of another "comfort" package, which was part of the lift kit package for the car. Can't even say I remember how to turn them on, considering how often they're useful.

Would I have spent money on them otherwise? No. Five minutes in the car, the seats are "at temperature" anyway. Why do I need to spend electricity (and fuel) to do what nature does anyway?

Of course, the BMW owner has already paid for them, even without being charged to pass electricity through them. They're just not detailed out, so they can charge extra if you power them up.

No, they're willing to force Europeans to pay for it. If these politicians were putting their own, personal money into it, things would be different. But "the people" can pay for it just fine.

Cats like X. We can improve sales of X by proving why cats like it. Then we'll find out what their second choice is, and "improve" that. But we need variety, so let's identify 3rd, 4th, and 5th, so the cat food aisle will have more stuff to convince cat providers with choice.

Then someone will show why X is dangerous to cats, making the other things more popular.
