Journal Journal: Anyone got one gmail invite? 5

Could someone send a gmail invite to cj@ceejayoz.com for me? My gf needs one and I haven't got any right now...

p.s. on my way to Australia in a week! Just spent the last week in a remote part of Minnesota visiting her parents, I shall update my blog regarding it soon.

PHP

Journal Journal: PHP and File Permissions 12

Hey Linux pros...

I have a PHP script that goes into my POP account directory and pulls e-mails out of it, parses them, and adds them to a mySQL db.

However...

My mail server (courier) creates those files with permissions of 0600 - meaning PHP can't read them without me manually CHMOD'ing them to 0644 (defeats the point of this script getting them in the first place).

so...

I need one of the following...

a) a shell script to CHOMD all files in that directory to 0644, which I'd put as a cron job every minute or so
b) some way of making courier save with 0644 permissions as default, instead of 0600
c) some way of getting PHP to run as the user (ceejay) instead of its default (nobody)

Anyone got ideas?

Journal Journal: Someone show this to Brent 11

True hero athlete - Day's theme: Challenge yourself

Tillman's youngest brother, Rich, wore a rumpled white T-shirt, no jacket, no tie, no collar, and immediately swore into the microphone. He hadn't written anything, he said, and with the starkest honesty, he asked mourners to hold their spiritual bromides.

"Pat isn't with God,'' he said. "He's f -- ing dead. He wasn't religious. So thank you for your thoughts, but he's f -- ing dead.''

What? This didn't happen for God, as well as country? A professional athlete turned soldier, and we're supposed to believe that he'd have no use for piety? Robbed of a cliche, where does that leave us?

Challenge yourself.

His brother-in-law and close friend, Alex Garwood, described how Tillman handled his duties when he became godfather to Garwood's son. He came to the ceremony dressed as a woman. Not as a religious commentary. He was doing a balancing act.

Sounds like the guy was a bit of a liberal agnostic! Wonder if Brent & Co. will be so happy to call him a hero when they find out... too challenging to their narrow worldview?

Journal Journal: Remember Terri Schiavo? WTF is this all about? 4

Accidentially disabled comments on previous journal, they're enabled now.

what on earth is going on with this woman?

Terri Schiavo, the severely brain-damaged woman at the center of a long-running right-to-die court battle, was hospitalized briefly after nursing home workers found what appeared to be needle marks on her arms, a lawyer for her husband said.

Four puncture wounds were found on one arm and one was found on the other arm, said attorney George Felos, who represents Michael Schiavo.

He said the wounds, which appeared to have been caused by a hypodermic needle, were discovered after a 45-minute visit Monday by her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, who have been fighting Michael Schiavo's efforts to remove his wife's feeding tube.

Felos also said that after the parents' visit, Terri Schiavo was found in "a disheveled state" with her feeding tube wrapped around her back and a medical wrist band pulled up very tight on her arm like a tourniquet.

The righties were going on and on about how suspicious the husband was... but what's going on with the parents?

Journal Journal: Daily Show Makes A Good Point 5

One of the refutations of Richard Clarke's accusations put forth by the Bush Administration (press secretary McClellan, in this case) is that the White House has no record of Bush being in the Situation Room on the date Clarke says he was told to look at an Iraq connection.

So. On 9/12/2001, Bush didn't use the Situation Room at all? As Jon Stewart says... what on earth are they saving it for?

Journal Journal: In The Loop / Under Oath 11

Faith-Based Aide's Charges Denied

WASHINGTON, January 21, 2003 -- Bush administration officials today denied allegations that the White House lacks a coherent policy-making process and is dominated by a small clique of conservatives aides known as the "Mayberry Machiavellis."

The charges, reported in the current issue of Esquire magazine, were made by John DiIulio, Bush's former top advisor on faith-based initiatives. However, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said DiIulio was "not in the loop."

White House Denies O'Neill's Charges on Iraq

WASHINGTON, January 14, 2004 -- Bush administration officials today criticized comments from former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill, who claimed in a recent 60 Minutes interview that President Bush and his top aides began planning for an invasion of Iraq within days of taking office.

O'Neill was "not in the loop," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

Cheney: Clarke's Charges Not Credible

WASHINGTON, March 22, 2004 -- White House officials reacted with anger today to charges by President Bush's former top counter-terrorism advisor, Richard Clarke, that the president has badly bungled the war on terrorism.

Clarke, who blasted the Bush administration in a 60 Minutes interview Sunday, "wasn't in the loop," Vice President Dick Cheney said in an interview Monday with radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

Okay... someone want to enlighten me here? Just who exactly IS in the loop? And why was the anti-terrorism adviser out of the loop? What kind of anti-terrorism strategy is it to not tell your anti-terrorism head anything?

National security adviser Condoleezza Rice offered last night to sit down one more time with the commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

But last night's offer to testify came with conditions: The meeting would be held in private, and not under oath.

David Gregory of NBC News asks: 'So why not testify under oath?'

White House counsel Alberto Gonzales says it's unnecessary, because administration officials are duty-bound to tell the truth anyway.

Administration officials shouldn't have to testify under oath because they're supposed to tell the truth? Does this seem weird to anyone else? Testifying under oath was good enough for Clinton, wasn't it?
