Feed Turn your OS X and Linux-based machine into a FON Spot (engadget.com)

Filed under: Desktops, Laptops, Wireless, Networking

Not one to dwell too heavily on the past, FON is apparently already moving beyond its newfangled partnership with Time Warner, and has now caved to giving Mac and Linux users the ability to get in on the action. The latest FON Spot software now appears in a beta form for OS X and Linux (preferably Ubuntu) users, allowing Ethernet-connected machines to share excess bandwidth with others via WiFi. Notably, it's even supposed to work if connected via 3G, but we can't imagine your carrier being all too pleased with such a scheme. Per usual, the company warns of its beta nature and insinuates that problems could arise, but if you're still not deterred, be sure to hit the read link and get your respective download on.

Submission + - Termination of RegisterFly.com Accreditation

tldagent writes: "ICANN today issued a formal notice of termination of RegisterFly.com's Registration Accreditation Agreement (RAA). — Says ICANN

Today marks one of the biggest decisions that the ICANN organization has ever made with regards to an accredited Registrar, and a big reason for the users at Registerflies.com to celebrate the success of their efforts to be heard and responded to.

This is a case where thousands of domain owners all around the world have been ripped off by a shoddy, ICANN Accredited Registrar for years and while complaints rolled in, no one listened. Finally a number of Registerfly customers gathered and opened up a soundboard for the unethical Registerfly company at Registerflies.com and almost 2 years later, the voice of concerned citizens were finally heard and the necessary action of ICANN was finally announced. What once looked like a losing battle is now becoming internet history.

Statements made by ICANN have proven the awareness of the problems with regards to their Accredited Registrar, Registerfly.com for nearly 2 years. While ICANN sat back and let Registerfly rape and pillage its customers amounting to lossses that would well be into the millions, website owners around the world have lost their websites and many of them their livelyhoods by potentially unlawful actions of this one Registrar carrying the ICANN logo and ran (into the ground), by CEO Kevin Medina.

The Registerfly scandal goes beyond domain names, it also involves wreckless spending of company funds on male escorts, chiwawas, Cadillac Escalades, sports cars and a liphosuction surgery by the company president, Kevin Medina of Miami Beach, Florida. The company was originally started byJohn Naruszewicz and Kevin Medina under the name of Unified Names Inc. Kevin and John began to have a relationship breakdown which lead to infighting in the company wich effected their business of being a domain name registrar and web hosting company which created a domino effect that eventually brought the company to it's knees under the direct watch of ICANN and reseller Enom. Meanwhile as Registerfly was a domain reseller for Enom, it's been said that the share of words between Enom and Kevin Medina, caused Enom to not populate the transfer codes for Registerfly which caused yet another chain reaction of expiring domains which enom monetized for traffic parking and proceeded to take advantage of past Registerfly customers by extorting $160.00 per domain.

This entire ordeal with Registerfly, ICANN and Enom have exploited holes that the industry never knew existed. The rules for domain accreditation are going to need to be re-written and checks and balances are going to have to be put in place in order to prevent this from happening with other registrars. While this seems like the end of a very costly and life changing story, we're afraid that this is only the beginning. You can follow the entire story at www.registerflies.com."

Journal Journal: When life gives you a bathtub filled with orange water 16

Don't drink it.

Just call me jane, unsuccessful girl plumber! Yes, I fulfilled all my Mario and Luigi dreams by attempting to fix my bathtub. The faucet for hot water hasn't been able to turn off since I moved in 15 months ago, so I am used to hearing this dripping noise coming from my bathroom. Yesterday afternoon I noticed that the drip was a little louder, a little more resonant, so I went to investigate and lo and behold I found my bathtub half filled with water tinted with a greasy
