1. User disconnects antenna, and replaces it with a 50 ohm load....

2. Car won't start. Driver display posts "Internet connection failure, tow to nearest dealer for service.

3. Owner glossed over the sales contract which stated the car must be able to make a continuous connection to the Internet in order to be used.

4. Owner reconnects antenna, and car starts. Owner curses under their breath and gets with the program.

The termination better be on solid ground as C- level executives and union employees in the United States have just cause employment contracts while the average non-union workers are at-will.

At-will basically means you can terminate some one for any reason, or even no reason at all. It's VERY difficult to prove wrongful termination against an employer who has terminated an at-will employee.

  Not only are top level executives on a contract stipulating just cause, they also have the financial firepower to challenge a termination. The average joe is pretty screwed if fired for cause: No COBRA, NO unemployment benefits, probably blackballed for life. The executive can live off savings for years till people forget and will probably get employment elsewhere with minimal impact.

Yet another class action ^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^H money grab.

Class action law is severely flawed by design.

The plaintiffs get coupons, and the legal team bringing the lawsuit gets millions.

It's all about who has the deep pockets and not about the losses the plaintiffs incurred.

Have you seen those class action notices in the mail. They basically state that unless you respond, you'll be limited to the coupons awarded. You have to notify them by mail to be excluded from the award if you want to bring your own action. How did this loophole get passed at the federal level? Probably by monied interests...

Limit lawyer expenses to 5% of the award, and fix this loophole so the default is you have to opt in to a class action, and a lot of the problems will go away.

The chance of these reforms is the same as a snowball's chance in hell.

The only way content keeps its value is to enforce scarcity. If content is available everywhere, it will be worth less. This is what leads to exclusivity deals, and technical measures to prevent piracy.

That said, most of what Netflix offers is garbage in my opinion and is essentially worthless to me. If I want to watch something, I mostly watch individually produced content on Youtube.

I think you mean "serfs", not "serves", although serfs do serve their lord ;)

Anyway, I've thought a lot about this, and the root cause I believe is a flaw in the design US constitution stemming from Federalist #10:

"that government ought to "protect the minority of the opulent against the majority" and that unchecked, democratic communities were subject to "the turbulency and weakness of unruly passions"

This I believe is the cause of C-level executives having too much power.

Proposed fixes:

1. Federal initiative and referendum.
2. Get rid of the electoral college and replace it with the popular vote.
3. Allow recall of senators and congresspersons
4. Ban lobbying
5. Switch to public campaign financing.

You only need one of these 2 things to have the upper hand with regard to excessive working time:

1. Be an expert in some skillset which is extremely hard for the employer to replace easily.
2. Enough money in the bank, no debt, and low living expenses to weather being fired for refusal to work long hours.

If you have neither, you can be easily expoited.

If a City wants to allow e-scooters, the e-scooter companies should pay for use of City infrastructure via a permit or licensing mechanism so that the scooters can be placed in designated areas carved out near bus stops and the like and not clutter sidewalks. Any e-scooters not licensed or permitted should be impounded.

Consider no other legislation until a Net Neutrality bill is signed into law.

Now, this may cause other problems because the legislature will be shirking their constitutional duties, and the other side will do the same with some other piece of legislation, like that "Border Wall", But "putting your foot down" to advance critical issues is something the corrupt US congress needs to start doing.

What we have in the US are powerful business groups who "nominate" our legislators for re-election through private campaign donations. Until all elections are financed by public funds, none of this will change: employment-at-will, binding arbitration, noncompete clauses, and reform of overtime for exempt employees.

Since when is social media, free stuff where you are the product, and business models which treat employees like contractors considered tech leadership?

Maybe Silicon Valley should get back to doing things which made tangible products such as CPU's, and specialized chips.

Maybe instead of "Silcon Valley", it should be called "Silly Ventures"
