It has become quite obvious following the news that corporations are spitting on laws and won't stop committing crimes that increase their profits, until some actual individuals in charge are jailed for significant time.

Puny fines, often not even exceeding the extra profits made from the crime, won't stop anything. They are just like a gamble CEOs are ready to take - if they are not caught, their personal bonus increases with the extra profit. If they are cought, the company or some insurance will cover the cost, with no consequence to the CEO.

I spend a lot less on games since most games today refuse to be played offline. To me, a game that won't run while I'm on a plane or in a remote location without InterNet access just isn't worth buying. I also refuse to buy things that become worthless suddenly when their manufacturer loses interest or ceases to exist. (BTW: GTA V was a positive experience, I played through it completely.)

But why would I want to use LightWorks instead of kdenlive, which is already open source and for free, plus has tons of features that LightWorks does not offer? The only feature I can see listed that LightWorks has but kdenlive hasn't is support for stereoscopic images.

LightWorks is "for free" only as an extremely crippled down version that cannot even edit 1080p videos! So really, it's more like a demo/teaser, not a free version that one can use for anything real.

I import h.264 clips into kdenlive all the time, and I cannot say it has crashed on me doing so. (I use a self-compiled binary of the latest stable version.)

I am using kdenlive a lot, and have even tutored others on how to use it, with a consistent reaction of "wow, it's really good, once you know how to use it". The documentation/tutorials available for kdenlive are somewhat lacking, they are either outdated, shed light on only a few features, or are simply sloppy work. But kdenlive is really feature-rich and very, very good. At the time I had to choose, Pitiwi was by no means a competitor, and I wonder if that has really changed.

A few years back there was an eruption of expensive "premium short message services" that offered gullible people to provide their "Manga character name", their "hero name" and other ridiculous stuff like that - based on a hash-function that picked a name from a name library according to the hash sum over some arbitrary data (like real name, phone number or whatever) the gullible customers provided in their short message.

Now this "pick name based on hash over genes"-proposal does not sound that different - and it is similarily useless. Why would one pick some completely different random name just because of a single insignificant minor mutation?

I guess that is what they also told people first about Spam, "microwave popcorn", Marmite and other horrors now populating supermarkets. :-)

How long will it take until some disgruntled ex-Fort-Detrick employee sends such an abomination of Pizza to some US offcials to make them aware of their atrocity?

That was precisely what I thought: Somebody wants to found yet another "unprovable-to-be-wrong"-religion. How old, how boring... shame on the authors if they call themselves "scientists".

Does it really take yet another invention to prove that human resources can survive on a soilent-green diet and alike? Sounds to me like an unnecessary all time low in the already moribund eating culture some western nations have committed to.

Let's just assume that was successful practicing for the day when computer evaluated meta data will determine whether citizens are allowed to live on in the USofA. Such data will one day be used to predict whether your upcoming life will be profitable to those in command of the drones. If it's not, better run for cover.

If you honestly think that the "world out there" is "full of horror" and "monsters", you've got serious mental issues. Maybe you can help yourself by travelling the world - not in an army uniform, and not just to places where you are sent to shoot people your employer dislikes.

Maybe you would realize then that people all around the world have much better things to do then to conspire against people living in some remote country. Unless of course, they are being approached by you dropping bombs on their houses.

If you want to be scared about dangers to you life, why not calculate the probabilities of dying early from car accidents, lack of health insurance, being shot randomly by some disgruntled gunman on a rampage at home - all in relation to the risk of becoming the victim of some sinister terror plan?

And BTW: You might have noticed that there are many developed countries in the world that run nothing remotely similar to the NSA, CIA and DOD that have not seen any significant amount of attacks from foreign "monsters".
