Submission + - NASA GISS finds new record warmest year 1

SleptThroughClass writes: NASA's GISS climate researchers have reexamined their temperature records and determined that the warmest recorded year in the USA was: 1938. The change was noticed by ClimateAudit and Pielke's blog. The change seems to not have been noticed by GISS, as there is no news release on their web site, so you have to look for the "U.S. Temperature" graph on this page or directly view the graph.

An anonymous reader writes: Andrej Preston, ex-administrator of legendary BitTorrent SuprNova.org, has turned over the keys to The Pirate Bay.

"My deal with [The Pirate Bay] was that the role of SuprNova can't change much," he tells Slyck.com. "It needs to be community orientated, but I hope they make some updates the SuprNova was sooo missing. But what they will do, it's not my thing to decide anymore. But I know they will do [well] and will try to keep the community spirit running."

An anonymous reader writes "Flickr and Second Life fans seem to have collided head-on over a little known policy on Flickr that 'delists' an account from public areas, including search, when more than half of your content is non-photographic in nature. Flickr stated that most people searching the site are looking for photographic content so the restriction is in place merely to keep the site focused on its original intent. From the article: 'As a result, many screenshots on Flickr are AWOL — at least as far as the general public is concerned. That's angering and confusing some of the people who carefully stage scenes in the popular virtual world and religiously post the results online.'"

Datagod asks: "Has anyone ever calculated the temperature you would need to be able to slice through steel like it was thin air? How hot would a light saber really need to be? Also, I am assuming that at least some of the metal would be vaporized and the expanding gas would fling bits of molten metal at the saber wielder. Wouldn't your average Jedi be horribly scarred from all this."

Not likely. You read that NTP thinks it's easy for RIM to keep just the gov't customers turned on. This is a potentially fallacious assumption, not to mention RIM have no real financial incentive to do so, and strategically are better off shutting down the whole country. If BB service is shut down in the US, the government service will go with it, trust me.
