Real estate in Fremont is expensive but more *affordable* housing can be had in the nearby communities of Milpitas and Newark. In any case, Fremont is much, much cheaper than Palo Alto and surrounding communities (I'm leaving East PA out of that consideration).

Just north of the Fremont plant is undeveloped land that is right next to the new BART station. They could build there allowing employees to take mass transit and also be within walking distance of the factory. If they out grow the space, or hit lean times, they should be able to rent the space at a premium since it is next to the station.

Now it's happening again with the latest Office with their Metro-ized GUI.

First thing I did when I got a new shiny laptop with Office 2013 was install LibreOffice so I can focus on working, and not relearning how to do my usual tasks with a new UI.

Actually what I really did first was install VMWare and get Xubuntu installed but you get my point.

Just run XFCE, MATE, and any other XP like desktop and be done with it. Don't waste time with Unity, Gnome 3, the latest KDE, etc.

Race and gender don't matter. Only skill set, experience, soft skills, etc. We do, however, discriminate a little, mainly on what school you graduated from, or for those with graduate degrees, who was your advisor.

If you are woman or minority that got into tech through Codeschool and the like, you won't be working in my shop. We only hire people with real CS and engineering degrees that have done their time learning more than the web language|framework flavor or the month.

With Qt you can develop for desktop or mobile, with a GUI or not. With Python you can do simple scripting all the way up to full-blown apps. Once you become familiar with Qt you can also fallback to C++ if you need the performance. You also have the option using Qt's GUI as traditional widget or Javascript based Qt Quick.

Haven't signed a contract in 3 or so years since I left Sprint (and Verizon before that). I've been on T-Mobile with their sort of hidden $30/month plan of 5Gb 4G data, unlimited text, 100 talk minutes. I say it's sort of hidden because this rate is only available if you start a new account online. I never gab on the phone but I do surf and stream alot so this works for me. Currently using a Galaxy SII which is more than good enough.

Of course they'll never agree to adopt the technology. First, it means you can't use your buddy's backup weapon if your weapon malfunctions. Second, it won't be long before the technology becomes available to jam the system so you can't fire your weapon.

Got it as a gift from Dad when I started junior high in the '70s. I used it daily until I got an HP-11c. I lost the HP sometime in grad school but I still have the Sharp and still use it. I always preferred LEDs over LCDs anyways.
