The only people who complain and get articles written about it are huge companies, because that's the way media tends to work. Plenty of individual and smaller development companies objected to the flat 30% cut for everybody, and I'm sure there are plenty that still object to Apple's 15% or 30% cut.

The average user who buys an Android phone and discovers it doesn't have the Google Play Store is probably just going to return it to the retailer because they "can't get their apps." The thought of installing it will never enter their minds.

There are exceptions to this, obviously, but they generally prove the rule. Amazon's Fire tablets with their own store and bundled apps, for example.

YouTube, like many social media companies, started off with a plan for the service but not for monetization. This also helped build a user base that might have otherwise looked for other options due to the ads. Now that they've basically captured the market that's no longer a concern.

A counter argument, driving through remote parts of Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Lower East Side (NYC), etc. where you don't expect to need an emergency locator beacon - an extra bit of emergency kit can be handy.

I think some people don't realize that there are sections of major highways in some states that have spotty cell service, to say nothing of mountain passes and the like. Most people probably aren't going to buy a dedicated device for the relatively small amount of time they don't have service, but they might well appreciate being able to use their phone for that purpose should they need to.

Unlike phishing emails and other forms of online scam which can be distributed to millions of potential victims with negligible costs for the criminals, physical packages will cost a significant amount to manufacture and post, meaning they risk a much lower return on investment for criminal enterprises.

Many of the people who would likely fall for these scams use email providers that have increasingly effective systems for blocking spam at this point, and there's much better awareness of this type of scam since it's been around so long. There are even YouTube channels dedicated to exposing it. I'm sure many people still fall for it, but perhaps not as many as before.

A physical package has the advantage of being a less known method and seeming much more genuine to a potential victim. This might even be an experiment to see how the economics work out.

MyAnimeList has more than 20,000 entries, though there are at least a few (likely not many) that are Chinese or Korean animation rather than Japanese, so they wouldn't be included in this database. It's also possible that MAL breaks down separate seasons into their own entries more often. For example, MAL has a separate entry for Haikyuu!! Second Season, while this does not. But then again, it does have a separate listing for the 2nd cour of Haikyuu!! To The Top, so who knows.

They might be drawing comparison to the popular Japanese database Anikore, which has fewer than 15,000 entries. But like MAL, Anikore has a lot of features this site lacks.

I would assume they have other measures in place to help curb this but they might be poor, making it "easier" to just block the entire service.

But then again I can't seem to get anyone to explain to me why a commercial company with a few hundred of developers would use git in the first place.

I think the dominance of GitHub plays a role.

Students are taught how to use git and GitHub and GitHub offers a generous "Student Developer Pack" to further entice them. Recruiters expect to see a candidate's GitHub page; I've never seen an application form ask for one's Bitbucket or GitLab. For better or worse, there's a Facebook effect of "I use it because everyone else uses it."
