There should never be a backup password to a secure system. You lost the password? Too bad, not even you can get your data.

This.
Evolution itself is a fact. The theory of evolution explains why and/or how the theory of evolution occurs. The fact that it does occur is set in stone, and can be repeatedly proven both in the lab and in the field, empirically. The theory part explains the why/how, but that doesn't stop it from being true.
Same with gravity. Gravity is explained by the general theory of relativity. Gravity itself is a fact. The Earth attracts your mass and you "fall" into it. Explaining why/how that occurs is in the theory. I suppose it does get muddied up some since physical geodesy describes mathematically how, while relativity describes why, but both are valid.
Ben Wade stated that evolution is just a theory, and that Darwin made it all up.
I mean, before this article, I didn't even realise that evolution had a theoretical side, or that Darwin was the one who came up with it.
We need this guy to come up to Canada and teach at our schools. Clearly our teachers aren't doing their jobs.
all she would have to say is "you need to cut this list down to only the witnesses you plan to present"
That's what the point of Apple submitting this list was all about in the first place. She had asked that the first time and they gave her a list of 20 witnesses that Apple believed they were going to bring to court.
She told them off. Unprofessional or not, she could have done much worse to Apple's lawyers for trying to waste her own as well as the courts' time. I think it's a welcome change for this case, and is probably one of the reasons Koh remained as judge for it. This needs to be a quick, no-nonsense, no-bullshit, no-courtroom-theatrics case that settles things once and for all. The amount of patent cases in a day alone waste enough of the courts' time, and I doubt that anyone wants it to be wasted anymore, because Apple thinks their going to get away with 20 witnesses in an impossibly short amount of time.
I can't even say the word GUI without thinking of this monstrosity.
Seriously, after the way the clone saga in Spider-man was handled, I never again want to think about these things.
I mean it, it's like I have post-traumatic stress after the events of that comic.
Can we take some of this code and give emacs a decent editor already?
Also, I noticed there's some fortran code in there. What is going on?
I use linear algebra and calculus everyday.
As a geomatics engineer, my programming often involves using and understanding different levels of vector calculus as well as some basic linear algebra.
By the time I'm 30, I probably won't use it as much. In the meantime, I use it everyday to solve different problems.
What, you don't use butterflies to write your notes? Get off my lawn, you petulant n00b!
BASH is relatively new? What?
It's pretty much the defacto standard for most places and products nowadays. If you said ZSH however.....
Boo!
Python + Numpy + Scipy + matplotlib tends to do the job the same, if not better, all whilst being easier to write and debug.
Plus, you don't have to worry about lacking the toolkits or extensions to do parse strings properly, write custom objects, etc... Also, you can design your interface any way you want to, that is, WITHOUT the figure window.
MATLAB is garbage, and should no longer be used. Python for scientific computing is the way to go.
Then license it as GPLv3, then post it on Craigslist.
They might just give it back to you with that license, though...
If Microsoft keeps this up, I'll be looking forward to the day that computer science grads have to pledge an oath to the four software freedoms, not much unlike Doctors and their oath to the tenets of medicine.
Perhaps there will be a light at the end of the tunnel, but I do worry that the light will require a license key.
The esteem with which you hold yourself in is depressing.
If Apple wants to expand their market share, it can only come from PC/Windows users.
Now do you mean to tell me, that Apple has no interest in one of the 6 Hurd users? The 3 Haiku users?
The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka!" (I found it!) but "That's funny ..." -- Isaac Asimov
