No, really, it's the right word, which was used for one season. I know this because for years now this person has been putting this in first post, and due to all the comments ,frankly I've learned more aboyut the golden girls than I ever wanted to know. Only thing I *don't* know, is why in the world would anyone even bother doing this.. Is their life just soo barren that it's their high point? Maybe we should feel sorry for this first poster...

Comment Great action, but 70 Gs? A bit low.. (Score 1) 482

Everybody else on /. seems to agree (how often has THAT happened!) that it's a truly noble action, and I also applaud this move. I have a concern though. After tax, 7- grand can plummet down to the mid 30s, in actual *usable* incomne. Perhaps another 20g is safe with some kind of shelter, but you can't easily spend that money, so it's not usable. That means that his monthly income would be around 3 something grand. In Seattle, a bachelor ap't can easily run 2Gs or more, and a house (rent or mortgage) $2.000 to $2.500. Doesn't leave a lot for $350 P.M. car payments, "smart meter" calculated energy costs ($300 p.m.) etc etc. That means he's going to have to slowly increase his pay/reverse his pay cut to get by. And there's the rub. How the devil would his employees react to a CEO who couldn't calculate his living expenses effectively? And then had to bump up his salary? Now, maybe he really is lucky to have very low living expenses, but what if an emergency comes along.. Those bonuses would be the only thing he could tap into. All of this means nothing, really..Just thinking out loud.. I still think it was a good move in a world full of greedy investors, shareholders, and CEOs who believe the new mantra of record returns every quarter. It used to be a good investment was one that was stable and trustworthy , and nobody expected record profits each and every quarter.,.. "sigh"

Well what do you expect from one of the most deadly poisons ever invented? Even analine dye, which is terribly poisonous, isn't as bad because poisoning by it can be treated. Acetaminophen poisoning will kill you after five days of the most horrendously painful and horrible symptoms ever, first, and there's no effective antidote for it.

Actually, I should have said there's no effective painless antidote for it. They can,m of course, stuff a long needle in your liver and if you then survbive you'll be permanently damaged. Anyone thinking of ending it via tylenol ought to know it might not work, and they'll be dependant on others the rest of their lives.

War is almost never about disagreements, but greed. You have something. I want it. You won't give it to me so we go to war. That "something" can be oil, land, human resources (as in people). Rarely it's about religion.. although it seems to be popular again, and not since the islamic invasions of the 9th century where they pretty much conquered all of europe and arabia.. The crusades really hardly counted at all as religious wars, in comparison.. but the Knights just weren't nearly as bloodthirsty as the lslamics...

NAtural selection certainly can work that quickly if the genes are strong enough, and econoomic factors come into play. In most countries it's the poor people that have the most children . Statistically, poor people are much shorter, so naturally the majortity of any such region would be shorter.. Look it up on google if you want proof. Also some genetics for short people are dominant, such as Malaysians and, in fact, most Asians.. In parts of Scandinavia and especially the Netherlands, however, it's the affluent people that have children most often, and more of them. Coupled with the Dutch genetic tendancy in certain regions to be very tall already, it's natural this woiuld occur. Not all Dutch are genetically disposed to be tall.. Freislanders , as in my family, tend to be short. Conversely, Amsterdamers are notoriously tall.

Yup, my OSX Mail app informed me of that as well. It simply asked me if I wanted to continue. I assumed there was some kind of server problem accessing the certificates. After all, Google couldn't possibly be that incompetent as to let their certs expire. It used to be a common event back in the day, when Netscape 4 was current, that certs would expire all the time. But not now. Too busy snooping in on everyone else , I guess, to bother to check at home..

I think the powdered alcohol guy has had too many of his own packets.. an ounce of alcool at 120 proof would weigh pretty much the same as an ounce of powdered alcohol.. given that it's .6 of an ounce alcohol as well. So how is it lighter? Or easier to carry? Most hard alcohol comes in lighter plastic bottles now, so the glass isn't the issue...
