westlake writes: The Verge and others are reporting that Google has temporarily shut down Map Maker after being overwhelmed by a toxic flood of spam — most notably the adolescent Android-pissing-on-Apple gag recently posted by one of its regular contributors.

Submission + - Google deleting YouTube channels for all Google+ holdouts.

An anonymous reader writes: Recently my YouTube channel of almost nine years has disappeared and according to information gathered from the YouTube Google Group, there is no way to restore the channel unless the user creates a Google+ account. Numerous others have reported on the same issue.

Google has remained silent, however a "Top Contributor" to the Google Groups has alleged that this was a software glitch that only affected certain users, conveniently users who either hadn't ever created a Google+ account and users who had deleted their Google+ accounts.

Errorcod3 writes: After a series of spam attacks and other obscene edits, Google has temporarily taken its crowd-sourced map editing tool Map Maker offline. The online tool has, for years, allowed those in countries without detailed maps to be able to add various details and points of interest to Google Maps, like new roads or parks, for example. But in more recent months, the tool has been instead used by some to upload inappropriate content to Google Maps – like the recent prank which added an image of the Android mascot urinating on the Apple logo, for instance.

It's a pointless, unproductive waste of time, and the fact that people get jollies out of deliberately aggravating other people bespeaks of a certain level of sociopathy.

Feeling pleasure from the misfortune of others is common in humour. Being the dominant, accepted form of humour in most societies, it's the opposite of sociopathy.

Ever since the Google+ marriage to YouTube if I click on a comment to see what it was in response to, it opens up a new tab and still doesn't show me the parent post. I'm using the latest version of Chromium and have YouTube whitelisted in my JavaScript blocker, so I don't know what the problem is.
