Submission + - Internet Explorer 10 Drops Vista Support (pcmag.com)

Pigskin-Referee writes: This week at Microsoft's MIX11 Web developer conference, the company surprised many by making a pre-release version of Internet Explorer 10 available—less than a month after IE9 came out in its final form. But another surprise was uncovered by Computerworld's Gregg Keizer: the next IE won't run on any OS before Windows 7, including Vista.

Microsoft took some heat when it came out that Internet Explorer 9 would leave millions of Windows XP users in the lurch, as the new browser would only run on Windows 7 and Vista. But the company confirmed that IE10 won't even run on Vista. In a statement to Computerworld, the company said "Windows Vista customers have a great browsing experience with IE9, but in building IE10 we are focused on continuing to drive the kind of innovation that only happens when you take advantage of the ongoing improvements in modern operating systems and modern hardware."

Submission + - Ex-Microsoft GM Can't Work 'Anywhere in the World'

theodp writes: Be careful before you sign a Microsoft non-compete agreement, kids. GeekWire reports that King County Superior Court Judge Kimberley Prochnau has enjoined former Microsoft General Manager Matthew Miszewski from 'working in a marketing role in salesforce.com's public or commercial sector anywhere in the world.' So what did onetime Wisconsin State CIO Miszewski do to warrant the global ban? 'He was a major evangelist for Microsoft,' explained Judge Prochnau, who added that the 'thrust of the order is to preclude him from being the evangelist for Salesforce.com that he was for Microsoft.' Microsoft, which has warned Congress that restricting the flow of talent is ruinous to America, said in a statement that the company is pleased with the ruling.

Comment I'm voting with my feet... or money in this case (Score 1) 260

I'm looking for a new camcorder and will not be buying Sony for two reasons. The first reason is I don't like them anymore after they started suing their customers and the second reason, I have lots of SD cards lying around, so I don't want to buy something where I have to invest in a different standard.

Comment Yeah, sort of nice (Score 1) 159

It looks nice and kinda cool. Good concept. I see designers and hipsters as a good target group for this. For us that use the computer for a lot of typing, I don't think a touch keyboard will do the job. I also imagine the horror of that speaker/power-supply entangled in the cable mess under my table. Overall I think it's a fun concept, I wouldn't buy it, but I know people who would.
