Comment Re:"Will the Union's voice replace mine?" (Score 1) 129

I always find these threads/discussions highly amusing. Because all the arguments I see people posting against unions need an asterisk "In the US".

People from the rest of the world are basically looking at that and going "Sorry what?"

It's the same in Germany when people want to form a works council. Well, maybe not that blatantly, but employers still discourage it.

I've done a lot of Section 508 compliance for government. It really sucks. I'd say 50% of UI development effort went just towards making a screen reader work.

That's after putting 80% of the UI development effort into making the screen reader not work.

Yeah, I know the sum is more than 130%. That's the budget overrun.

Comment Length of average stay (Score 1) 205

You need to multiply the numbers with the length of the average stay (or the mean time between renters) to do a fair comparison. If any AirBnB is rent for one week at a time, it will appear 52 times per year as available. If tenants stay for two years, that apartment will appear once every two years, or 0.5 times per year.

To stop the housing crisis we need to:

1. Ban BlackRock, Blackstone and Vanguard from buying up available houses.
2. Ban AirBNB.

It proves to be true, again: Every problem has a simple but incorrect and ineffective solution.

House prices go up (in cities, not in rural areas) because there are more people that want to live in a certain area than there is space. It's called supply and demand. Real estate funds could not make money if there was no demand. AirBNBs are no bigger issue than hotels. Yes, every AirBNB could be a home. But so could every hotel be an apartment complex with multiple homes.

Is defining what to do enough human authorship?

Essentially, the copyright would be on the instructions, where the human creativity lies. If the instructions are eligible for copyright, the "machine-translation" by the AI can also be covered by that copyright. If there's no copyright on the instructions, then there won't be a copyright on the result.

The minimum speed for the Autobahn is 60km/h

That's a common misconception. The truth is that there is no minimum speed on German motorways. However, access to motorways (Autobahn) and motor roads (Kraftfahrstraße) is limited to motor vehicles that can, on paper, reach a maximum speed of more than 60 km/h (i.e., at least 61 km/h).
