Comment Europe too (Score 1) 365

There is/was a movement in Europe for this as well.

FTFA:It recommends revising current threshold values of absorption, while encouraging all member states of the European Union (EU) to “take all reasonable measures to reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields.” And by reasonable, the proposal is advocating a ban on Wi-Fi and cell usage in schools

Yes, this is great in general (assuming they keep aiming for standards compliance) Personal users benefit, developers benefit, browser competition benefits, etc.

However, I know many Corporations that have in-house applications that can ONLY run on IE6. Often these legacy apps are extremely important for the company and are non-trivial to update to more recent browser versions. (or, the company does not have the resources to work on this)

For many corp's this will be an IT nightmare.

(however, I mean really, these Co's have had 20 years to upgrade these app and they have chosen not to, so at some point maybe a 'stick' is needed)

Funnily enough, System76 states that Ubuntu isn't even ready for a tablet.

Q: Any possibility of a System76 tablet?
Sys76: Despite all of the progress towards being a viable option for tablets, Ubuntu currently isn't ready for the primetime as a tablet OS. It has a lot of the fundamentals, but it's missing out on a few key points, like the lack of a software keyboard. There are solutions for software keyboards that do exist, but they are mostly designed for accessibility, rather than touchscreens.

Exactly. You know the saying there are 500+ channels and nothing is on.

For me TV is broken because I should be able to watch anything I want when I want.

I should be able to click on the TV and watch any episode of the original Star Trek (for example) at any time (it would also be nice to have a 'you may also enjoy', or 'related' to learn about things I may not be familiar with in the genre [or, perish the thought, new programs in development])

TV should be at my control 'for my entertainment', not treat me as a passive audience for what ever is programmed at whatever time.

(Yes, I realize this is probably not a realistic expectation. I am also aware of the wide array of recording devices, Tivo, etc as well as Movie streaming devices. (Roku, etc) I also realize that the blocker in my vision is more about licensing then technology, still, this is how I would like 'TV' to work)
