Android 2.1 Finally Makes It To Droid 132

MrSmith0011000100110 writes "The lovely people over at AndroidCentral have broken the announcement that Android 2.1 is finally coming to the Motorola Droid, with actual proof on Verizon's Droid support page (PDF). I don't know about my Droid brethren, but I'm pretty excited to see the new series of Android ROMs for the Droid phone that are based on a stock Android 2.1. As most of us know, the existing 2.1 ROMs can be buggy as hell and either running vanilla 2.1 or a custom ROM; but this phone is still a tinkerer's best friend."

Pseudogenes are junk DNA. They no longer have a function. Perhaps the killswitch could be in a RuBisCo-type enzyme. RuBisCo is a plant enzyme that fixes carbon dioxide to make glucose. It also fixes oxygen, however, which is hypothesized to be a remnant from the early atmosphere where oxygen was rare. Oxygen fixation by RuBisCo, or photorespiration, results in ammonia, which the plant must use energy to detoxify. My idea: an enzyme based on RuBisCo, which is part of an essential boichemical pathway, but causes problems in the presence of a specific substance. This substance would be manmade and very rare, and the effects on the organism would be fatal.

Why Time Flies By As You Get Older 252

Ant notes a piece up on WBUR Boston addressing theories to explain the universal human experience that time seems to pass faster as you get older. Here's the 9-minute audio (MP3). Several explanations are tried out: that brains lay down more information for novel experiences; that the "clock" for nerve impulses in aging brains runs slower; and that each interval of time represents a diminishing fraction of life as we age.

I've thought it should be like that here in the US for a long time. Doctors must get pretty annoyed when they tell their patients they need X and they insist on prescriptions for Y because they saw Y on TV. It doesn't help that doctors' offices are full of pens and pads of paper covered with the names of prescription drugs.

Video Professor is a company in the U.S. with ads that are very common on TV. They consist of an older man advertising his videos in which he shows how to use various software. He then assures the viewer that he is so sure you will like his product, he will send you one free. What actually happens is that you get the free video (plus shipping and handling), then a charge on your credit card for another video each month.

Journal Journal: Retired Signature 1

Did I tell you it never helps your karma to go against the wise and just moderators? I used to have this signature, which I'm retiring now.

Overrated, Troll, and Flamebait mod points are not to be used towards posts you disagree with. That would be censorship.

I just upgraded from Jaunty, and it's been great for me. The only major differences I've noticed so far are the updated boot screen (which is beautiful) and the Ubuntu Software Center; I have no doubt, though, that there are plenty of under-the-hood improvements I'm not noticing, especially since I'm an upgrade.
