Comment Re:What is the obsession with tattoos... (Score 1) 403

Exactly. I got my first tattoo after my mother passed, then another a month later when my aunt passed, then my third after my father passed about 6 months after that. They all have deep meaning to me, and I enjoy them. They are also kind of addicting once you get started, and the good artists aren't cheap. For now they are hidden by my polos, but I'm thinking of a move down to one forearm. One pair of the breathable Nike sleeves and that will be hidden when I'm at work, although I doubt it's an issue unless I change jobs. If I make it to an age where my skin sags and I'm no longer in shape, then I'm pretty sure I won't care what they look like, so that part is covered.

He covered those of us with no four-year degree somewhat. I'm in the same boat - I have 68 credits of math/chemistry/physics. I left school to earn money to go back, and found IT. I now make a very nice wage in the network engineering field. I have my Brocade and Cisco certs, along with Security+ (common sense 101), and enough experience now that I can move up and make good money. I'll never manage, but neither do I want to. I prefer the work.

I live in a fairly large city. Called for a cab to take me to pick up my truck as I was alone when I got my new car, so I had to go pick up my old one. First cab decided not to show, apparently. Called another; after 45 minutes the driver calls and says he won't be able to make it as his shift is ending. So I wasted 2+ hours, and still no truck.

I signed up for Uber, and had a car picking me up in less than five minutes. Got me to the dealership at almost 1/3 the cost of what the taxi would have been. I hope these services stick around, and put the overpriced and for me at least, useless cab companies out of business. I'll never call a cab again as long as Uber and Lyft are around. I also signed up as a driver, and on the weekends if I'm bored I'll give a few rides and make some extra cash.

Great reference. I recently finished the Ringworld series, and am now reading (well, listening through Audible) the series with Pournelle and Niven about Earth's first encounter with aliens (the Moties). I'm about halfway through The Gripping Hand (book 2). They are all fantastic reads, I can't wait to read them all.
