I think the search is narrowing. A recent post by a young grad student (Z. Cochran "Crystaline dual-lithium isotopes and Higgs interchange-related spacetime warping" Phys. Arc. Let. XI 77182-8172 ) has the community buzzing about special crystal configuration of lithium isotopes than can create a resonating mesh were vacuum-energy generates Higgs particles that can create a stable warping effect on the spacetime fabric. That effect, uncontrolled, can account for the slightly faster than light neutrino stream detected in Grand Sasso with origin in the LHC. Let's see what happens.

A) Did you heard on Mono? 20% of apps in the app store are made with monotouch. B) You may be happy with your Xoom, but most of people are happy with their iPad, that generates 97% of tablet traffic in the net. I have tested the Xoom. And I didn't like it. I like better the Galaxy Tab 10. But I like best the iPad2. You seem to fit the geek profile, and that's not what most people are. You don't want to accept the tested and true fact that most people like the iPad more than any android tablet. Observe I'm not denying merits to any other platform. I'm saying that people like some things more than other things. overwhelmingly. Again. Get over it.

Most people have android phones because they are cheaper than the real thing, and have color icons, like the real thing. Most people don't want a tablet. They want an iPad. Most of people are not geeks, and they want what they want. And they are not stupid. And Visual Studio is a great environment, and .NET a great library, to boot. Get over it.

Einstein was 40 and working in a patent office when he concocted special relativity. As a kid, he was not very brilliant. How do you fit HIM in the american school system. You should get rid of that ridiculous thing about IQ tests and stuff. When your country produces an Einstein, a Newton or a Gauss we'll see. P.S. I follow string theory publications. I haven't seen any kindergarten kid publishing yet. Don't bullshit people.

Metro and winRT are artifacts for tablets and possibly smartphones, including the "bias" to c++. Development for corporate and business in general will be in .NET,WPF, Silverlight and the like for some years to come. You can program for Win8 tablets with .NET if you want, but they want the apps performing for the ARM processors, and they concocted a "runtime" closer to the iron. Microsoft knows the next battle will be on tablets and similar devices, and it will be a fight to the death, so they have made almost a company bid on win8 and metro. But that does not apply to the desktop necessarily. And the desktop will stay for a long time. Android and iOS have not seen real competition because they target different people. Let's see what happens with win8, that will target everybody and possibly every platform. Don't underestimate them.
