Comment Re:why are they so scared about xray monitors? (Score 1) 605

Having actually left a pocket knife in my carry on, I was quite surprised that they did in fact find it. It was buried at the bottom of the bag, under a bunch of electronics. I was always under the impression that the x-rays were just eye-candy, however this last experience has actually made me wonder about the usefulness of them, as they no longer seem inept/useless to me. Just my thoughts, -Rob

It may not be a cure all but it seems a step in the right direction. While this in fact is probably in response to the court rulings, and current legal trouble; It seems that this probably has more to do with them being worried about the service being completely taken down, or blacklisted, than with them being worried about whether it's legal or not. From what I've read of the articles mentioned, one of the main upsides to this is the inability to reliably block it. I could be reading this incorrectly, however it still moves more towards a reliable network with less points of failure IMHO

Actually, once you have the initial 'Microsoft Download Manager' installed, you can download it with firefox all you want. The only thing the activex controllers are used for is to install the microsoft application to manage the download.

So if you downloaded the first iso, say the 32bit one, and wanted to download the 64bit iso as well, as long as you have the Download Manager installed, you can do so with Firefox or any browser of your choice, because all it's going to do is refer the aspx page your accessing to the Download manager.
