Comment Wait for it.... (Score 4, Insightful) 336

I went back for a visit last winter. It's sad. There are tiny pockets of hold outs and then the rest is just a free for all. Scrappers have gutted ever bit of available metal from any empty building not staffed with armed guards. This is best done with a sledge hammer and torch. The buildings are not recoverable after that. The roads are worse than a dirt road. At least gravity levels those out a bit. Then there's the crime.

I found a hipster pocket in DelRay. Perhaps one of the most obliterated areas. The homes are early 20th cen and cute. They sell for about $10 - 100. If you can find a buyer. There was a 2 block section of white hipsters fixing up their little gems. Baby strollers, all the trimmings. And I commented to a friend who still lives about .5 miles away: "Don't they realize when things get bad enough they're gonna be food for the locals?" He just laughed and said no.

Nothing has really changed there. Sadly it won't. The mentality is still the same. No matter how much money you throw at it. The city is corrupt from the ground up and has been for 100+ yrs. The new mayor may help. But he'll most likely give up like Archer did. Without a major paradigm shift in mentality it will always be Detroit.

Comment stand alone email addresses? (Score 1) 448

I'm a strong believer in having individual email addresses for each important login. I don't think I have a single email address that is related to more than 3 logins max. This greatly limits the ability to have a single breech allow someone into the entire kingdom. While this may not be as convenient as having a single pass login.... I'm ok with that. I keep everything in a password wallet (locally, no cloud usage) to have it all organized.

Comment Email the investment bankers. (Score 2) 171

I had some asshole that I had emailed once dump their entire gmail contact list into nextdoor and now I get a twice weekly email update also asking me to join. I emailed the woman asking her to remove me, but she did not. So...

I filtered their email with the following rules:
1. forward email to originator
2. forward to person who did this to me
3. forward to the investment team who owns the site: shastaventures.com
4. mark as junk
5. delete

I figure if they won't remove me, they might as well get the email too. You may want to use their email addresses and change the one you have on file with them.

Comment If Cleese has his say... (Score 1) 168

I saw the video for the "comedy tour" John Cleese did most recently. And how anyone felt it would be funny is beyond me. Don't get me wrong I feel collectively and individually these guys have done some fantastic stuff that has and will withstand time. But Cleese comes off as an embittered old man who is just trying to justify his entire life by proving how much better he made Python and if it weren't for him look how dull these things would have been. Oh, and he reallllly hates his exwife. We know this by, not only the title, but by the 45 minute rant about how much he hates her.

Please, bask in the truth of what was, and go out on that note.
