And this is still the overarching problem with this whole article. It's Apple mobile devices vs Windows PCs. Different products, different lifecycles. Of course you're going to have more sales when you're replacing your device three or four times as often. I need a picture of Inigo Montoya telling people 'parity' doesn't mean what they think it means (or rather, in this context, what they want it to mean).

Not if the software you need to run is a device driver for special hardware.

If it's USB, at least, the driver will work in an XP VM without the device being recognised in the host OS. My anecdotal evidence: old HP scanner with XP being the latest driver. No functioning driver in Win8, passed through and recognised and used in VirtualBox XP VM with zero issue.

Other pinned interfaces I can't vouch for but that's my cool story bro for USB.

I think part of the problem is 'classical' is so broad that some good old music gets lumped in with the boring late-century styles. =) There's a station on Live365 called Musica Antiquior. It leapfrogs the bland classical and gets right to the crazy Dark Ages choral and similar, there's some really epic stuff down there. That is the sort of 'classical' music I can get into. =)
