Comment Re:Awful idea (Score 1) 323

Trusting AI is a long ways off. My Tesla model 3 is nice and all, but it has about a 2 second delay for braking for cars crossing over my lane. It brakes after they are out of my lane, and it is super annoying.

Maybe it performs better for something that is truly right there in front of me about to be hit, but I have a lot of trouble trusting it based on the huge delay I normally see. Also, if you watch all the youtube videos with crash cams, the drivers almost always say they were the ones to hit the brakes, not the car. Proving the human is still way faster right now.

I think the car is faster only the case the human was not watching anything in front of their face/sleeping.

Comment New accidents caused by people using devices (Score 1) 323

Sounds like a terrible idea to me.

#1. People are going to kill themselves by trying to point a phone at a car instead of paying attention and driving safely.

#2. Speed limits in the US are usually lower than is reasonable so the police can pull over anybody suspicious. Everybody speeds a little, so now everybody gets a ticket?

#3. Speeding isn't always the best indicator of bad drivers, especially since the majority of speed limits are not reasonable. Can one report swerving, recklessly changing lanes, tail-gating, no signalling, etc.? Sounds like a nanny-state though, I can't trust people to report correctly.

Comment Well I don't like killing bunnies or owls in games (Score 1) 72

The little cute things that are harmless, it bothers me every time I have to kill them to farm. Like in Elden Ring. It would be almost the same if it was a bunch of little toddlers running around. I never liked GTA, but I somehow don't have a major problem shooting "bad people" in video games. I guess my brain is able to more easily disconnect it from reality. Maybe it is that same feeling you get in movies... half the people die, not a big problem. The one little puppy dies, OMG, what the hell is this movie doing?!?!

Comment That rich couple that reserved forest in Chile (Score 1) 70

Who was that couple, guy passed away in old age I think now, that had some clothing company and bought a huge amount of land in Chile... then donated it to the local government with stipulations of protecting it and leaving it a national forest or something.

We need more of that!

I didn't know "the golden silk spider, which migrated from tropical climates 160 years ago to establish an eight-legged foothold" were also invasive... those bastards seriously screw up all wooded trails, treed areas in the yard, etc. around here. I know arachnophobes who just about can't function during the fall when they take over. But at least they die in the winter.

So these new bastards aren't going to ever die in the winter? Well fucking great. We'll never be able to cut grass, walk or ride a trail again without a 10 foot pole held out in front of us.

Comment Re:BB10 was the best (Score 1) 19

Yep, a damn shame. Had smart implementations of gestures before gestures was a thing on iphones. On the non-physical keyboard Blackberries, the swipe up word choice on typing is way better than any of the slower, crappier versions on iphones/androids where you have to go to the top to pick a word. But if I had a physical keyboard I'd be happier, since it is way less prone to errors as a touchscreen typing situation.

Comment Re:NHTSA illustrates byzantine bureaucracy (Score 1) 39

What they need to do is have a max height restriction on these LED lights on hugely tall SUVs and trucks, so they don't blind folks so damn badly. At night I am constantly driving with my left hand extended to block the bright ass LED lights of the fool in the oncoming lane. One of these days I'm going to get in a head on collision because I can't see them inching into my lane.

Comment Re:I think child labor is the bigger issue (Score 2) 47

Yep. I would not the government stepping in on this one. As a parent, you can keep your kid out of some things, but no joke if you don't allow them a phone at a certain age they will be social outcasts in the US of A. You can at least use some lockdowns via the Family thing on iphones, but again... if 99% of your kids friends play that one game... are you never going to let you kid touch it? I allow my kid in about half the games his friends do, and I wish I could keep him out of 98% of them without killing his already fragile covid-destroyed social life.
