Comment Re:Self Taught (Score 1) 655

The only reason they toss the resumé away on the first pass is because the person reviewing it has degree or a boss that is a degree snob. People with degrees tend to color inside the lines and follow the rules they were taught, those that learn on the job and are more or less self taught look for new ways.

PS I'll put a smart person with 8 yrs. experience in a field against any Ph.D fresh out of school in that same field on any given day! And yes I did attend college but my job and passions have nothing to do with my degree of so many years ago. Also based on some of the comments, I think Elon Musk should close up shop and go home...

This is nothing compared to the companies that instate BYOD policy and then require you to sign a "Employment Agreement" that states the employer has the right to inspect the device no matter who owns it and there is no expectation of privacy (email, SMS, MMS, voice, VM, social, GPS data (Facebook and beyond)). People will say, so don't use it for work, but then you are penalized for not being accessible.

If the bug is reported to the developer and they do nothing, I don't feel bad for the developer and I can understand why the person who discovered it wants to get paid.
If I lived in a world that didn't require money, it would be different.

But either way, I do feel bad for the end users.

Eliminate classes (grade level) based on age, move to ability and understanding based divisions that are more segmented and less calendar based. (Allow kids to move at quicker or slower pace and not get sooooo bored or frustrated)

Education is as important as national defense (if not more), nationalize the system and have committees of the 2 best teachers from every state decide curriculum, books and methodologies. Take the decisions out of boards, bureaucrats and people with political agendas hands

Have a few charter/experimentation schools in each state to test and refine methodologies.

As the system developed and processes were put in place, I don’t think you would have to hold teachers accountable in the manner I think most people mean. Due to the changes in how they would be required to teach, I think some would just leave and those that would stay would eventually get it through repeated coaching and observation.

In theory due to a larger purchase pool, economies of scale would come into play and we could see dramatic cost savings.
