I second this. Not all particle board is identical. Three bedroom sets, numerous shelves, kid furniture, etc... has all lasted at least 5+ years and a couple moves. And there's no indication that they wouldn't last another 10. The stuff I've bought at the local big box office supply store is FAR worse quality than IKEA. I had a shelf that sagged when I put anything heavier than empty DVD cases on it. Meanwhile, I've got heavy books on an IKEA shelf that have been there 10 years, and it's still "straight as a board".

Best buy no longer seems interested in selling me useful things I want, but instead, hooking their talons into those purchases and loading it down with as much margin at my expense they can manage.

You say that as if it's some recent development. I had high school friends that worked there over 15 years ago and that was pretty much their main purpose as a salesman.

Even their refurbs are getting sent back. I just set up to send in my refurb yesterday. (paid $169 last week!)

However, it looks like they're sending me a brand new one to replace it. Instead of being shipped from Warehouse like the refurb, it's showing shipped from Amazon.

Not sure how I could tell once I got it though...

Or the cable/internet provider will come out with their own streaming service. Such as Comcast Streampix announced a couple days ago, for only $5 per month.

Of course it's not available if you just have the internet plan...so add $15-20 to that...

Though if you're like me, you figured out that it's cheaper to have both TV and internet than just internet if you need useable speeds. Because their base internet plan with no TV is something stupid like 5Mbps(on a good day). To upgrade the 5Mbps plan to 20Mbps costs MORE than just switching to the TV/Internet plan, which comes with the 20Mbps plan.

They'll get their money one way or another.
