My 2001 Prius battery died in 2009, 3 months out of warranty at 94k miles. Our 2007 and 2011 Prius did not. Nut we didn't keep them as long.
I read that many owners of the current Prius Prime are experiencing capacity loss. And Toyota offers no capacity warranty on that battery. Unlike all other EV and PHEV makers.
My 2012 Leaf experienced capacity loss.
My current 2015 Volt has not.
My husband's 2017 Bolt saw a bunch of capacity loss in the first few years. The battery was replaced due to the fire recall, with a larger one. New battery has been fine so far.
I do think batteries degrade. Maybe not to the point of being completely unusable, but certainly when it comes to capacity loss. I realize these are just anecdotes over a short sample, but it is still a problem if it happens to you.
I would not rush to charge/discharge 100+ kWh a day from EVs. I wonder what manufacturers would do in terms of capacity warranty if it occurred as a result of V2G and not driving. In some cases its cheaper to buy a car for the battery than to buy a hone battery. A Bolt is like 4.5 Powerwall but costs much less. But lacks V2G unfortunately.
