Feed Patent app hints at iPhone controlling Mac, iTunes (engadget.com)

Okay, so we've heard using an Apple Remote whilst trying to fool no one into believing it's an iPhone, but apparently, the patent pumpers in Cupertino are getting serious about executing that equation in reverse. According to a recent filing, Apple engineers explain how a mysterious "mobile phone" could be used to control your Mac (and specific applications like iTunes) via built-in Bluetooth, and the wording even mentions specific software that would be tailored to the Mac and handset in order to make it all happen. More specifically, consumers could "use the directional controls on the mobile phone to change listing volume, skip forward and backward, play / pause, etc.," and while no mention of the forthcoming iPhone is directly made, the allusion here is fairly clear.

Submission + - Powerful & free distributed rendering.

Anonymous Coward writes: "BURP aims to develop a publicly distributed system for rendering 3D animations. Currently this is an alpha project which means that certain restrictions apply. Not all uploaded sessions will actually be rendered right away — and sometimes you will not be able to contact the schedulers for short periods of time. Please note that this project is still in its testing phase and does not yet provide the security and stability of a full-blown BOINC project."

Submission + - DNS Hole Puts E-Mail at Risk

t2000kw writes: According to a PC World article, "a compromised DNS server could send browsers to malicious Web sites and cause problems with directory services and e-mail."

A recently announced vulnerability in Microsoft's DNS server could allow such a thing to happen, potentially redirecting email and even allowing the hacker to gain access to DNS logs, identifying sites that users visit and even redirecting users to false baking sites without their knowledge, gaining access to their personal information. Corporations are more vulnerable than most consumers because large ISPs generally run non-Microsoft DNS servers. More evil deeds that could be perpetrated are discussed in the full article here:

mrneutron2004 writes: Today we have a video review of a very good full tower chassis from Enermax, the Enermax ECA 5001, also known as the Uber Chakra, which undoubtedly sounds a lot cooler. Sporting some advanced and unique cooling and ventilation, very rigid all steel construction, and a tool-less design, we think your really going to like this one so let's take a closer look. http://www.fastsilicon.com/video-reviews/enermax-e ca5001-uber-chakra-server-chassis-review-v.html?It emid=57

Submission + - Google Acquires Doubleclick

Brian Ribbon writes: "The Register is reporting that Google has finally acquired Doubleclick, the "leading computer-tracking cookie provider" for $3.1bn. This follows failed attempts from companies such as Microsoft, who attempted to buy the company for $2bn

This latest purchase — involving one of the most offensive advertising companies on the World Wide Web — does little to enhance Google's "Do No Evil" motto."

New Sony DVDs Not Working In Some Players 651

An anonymous reader writes "It seems that the most recent DVDs released by Sony — specifically Stranger Than Fiction, Casino Royale, and The Pursuit of Happyness — have some kind of 'feature' that makes them unplayable on many DVD players. This doesn't appear to be covered by the major media yet, but this link to a discussion over at Amazon gives a flavor of the problems people are experiencing. A blogger called Sony and was told the problem is with the new copy protection scheme, and they do not intend to fix it. Sony says it's up to the manufacturers to update their hardware."
