Submission + - EA: No patches, no support for a 5-month-old game

Xyston writes: It's been five months since the release of EA's Rise of the Witch-King, and fans who were hoping for a patch were let down again this month when the promised patch never materialized. The game, which has been plagued by bugs, cheats and imbalances since its late November release, has become the source of frustration for gamers at several fan communities. While EA programmers admit they've neglected the game in favor of Command & Conquer 3, their last official statement was that a patch "should" have been available weeks ago. Gamers are still waiting.

Submission + - Upgrading Laptop Battery

RelievedSimpleton writes: I was looking to rebuild my laptop battery and I noticed that every site seems to suggest replacing with the exact same cells. I was hoping to be able to replace with higher capacity cells of the same voltage so my question is, is it possible to replace the cells with higher capacity cells and not cause any damage to the laptop?

Submission + - New Zealand Telecom restructure

Kris van der Merwe writes: "New Zealand has one of the worst broadband infrastructures in the developed world. NZ Telecom has pillaged the country's telecommunication ability over the last decade and a half. They have used their monopoly to squeeze consumers for every cent they can while not investing in local infrastructure. The NZ Government is planning to restructure NZ Telecom along the lines of British Telecom, and is inviting discussion. The article discuss the restructure by way of a case study (a small community in the NZ capital city). http://krisvandermerwe.blogspot.com/2007/04/horoki wi-case-study-on-separation-of-nz.html"

Submission + - Valve Cafe hacked! Financial info stolen.

denominateur writes: According to a forum thread at No-Steam Valve Software's "Valve Café" servers have been compromised giving the perpetrators access to users' financial information and Valve's balance sheets for the café service. So far Valve has reacted by deleting posts mentioning the security breach in the official forums. Apparently, they responded to one user asking about why his post was deleted and why Valve won't inform its users with: "Actually mate....as far as I know only the Cyber Cafe owners were hit. I am not sure though...but there is no need to panic at this time."

Submission + - Gaming on Linux

timtim writes: "Many enthusiasts have talked about how they wish they could switch from Windows to Linux, but the overwhelming hold back has often been the gaming support. The inability to play games under Linux has been a common misconception for quite some time now. This article hopes to clear up some of the myths and proves that Linux ain't so bad after all. From the article: "Gaming is the one thing that Windows has to offer over Linux. There are plenty of open-source office packages, photo editors, web browsers, mail clients,... but the general impression of gaming on Linux is poor. This is because most big gaming developers only use DirectX in their games; and, as we all know, DirectX is one of Microsoft's greatest gifts to gamers.""

Submission + - IBM Extends Moore's Law to the Third Dimension

Andreaskem writes: "IBM today announced a breakthrough chip-stacking technology in a manufacturing environment that paves the way for three-dimensional chips that will extend Moore's Law beyond its expected limits. The technology — called "through-silicon vias" — allows different chip components to be packaged much closer together for faster, smaller, and lower-power systems.
The new IBM method eliminates the need for long-metal wires that connect today's 2-D chips together, instead relying on through-silicon vias, which are essentially vertical connections etched through the silicon wafer and filled with metal. These vias allow multiple chips to be stacked together, allowing greater amounts of information to be passed between the chips.
IBM is already running chips using the through-silicon via technology in its manufacturing line and will begin making sample chips using this method available to customers in the second half of 2007, with production in 2008.

I think it does run Linux and yes, a Beowulf cluster of those would be great."
It's funny. Laugh.
