Note what state comes in second on the link you provided (Iowa) and read on.
Don't confuse the "value" of California's produce with the "amount" of produce.
California produces a reasonable amount of very valuable crops. E.g. grapes, almonds, strawberries. These command a high price and make a large profit.
California does not produce a lot corn, soybean or wheat. Fuck all in fact. Other states absolutely smash California in output with these crops, but they don't make much money.
I.e. Iowa produces 72,349,200 tons of corn and 15,048,000 tons of soy beans each year alone, which combined weigh 92,185,500 tons.
Iowa's corn crop alone produces more food than the entire combined Californian food crop mass, which weighs 54,744,735 tons combined.
In short, California does not produce the most food in America. Not by a long shot when Iowa produces almost twice as much food. But California's food crops are worth more money than Iowa's.
Don't bother adding in meat. Iowa leads the nation in hog production and comes 2nd in red meat (behind Nebraska).
Iowa produces more food than California and is America's largest producer of all foods combined.
