With upcoming new AI video compression formats, improving on existing perhaps by order of magnitude, I hope we will see, maybe 10 years from now, something like "Movie USB disk", containing all essential movies and TV shows ever created. It might need 200 TB - 1 PB, depending on language. This disk, readily copied among people on specialized $5 devices, shared and updated online, will be THE solution of media access problem. The Pirate Bay In Your Pocket.

Corporations are concentrating such power, that they don't hesitate to go directly against nation states, except USA and EU (so far) even UK after Brexit have no capability to enforce anything to them. Corporations are already involved in all major legislature being introduced and media (public opinion). This is far from democracy, and it is only getting worse.

I think model size is the issue only because the current LLM works on classical computers where RAM is separate from CPU. A future LLM chip might use a more suitable architecture where parameters will be uploaded directly into the CPU, like a huge “microcode”. That way it will work much faster and can be integrated into low-powered devices like phones, even with hundreds of billions of parameters. The real question is why anybody would run LLM on the phone when cloud seems much more convenient when it comes to upgrades, power usage, etc.

IBM states that the technology can fit '50 billion transistors onto a chip the size of a fingernail.' We reached out to IBM to ask for clarification on what the size of a fingernail was, given that internally we were coming up with numbers from 50 square millimeters to 250 square millimeters. IBM's press relations stated that a fingernail in this context is 150 square millimeters.
So, this means there is on average 1 transistor for 3000 square nanometers on this chip, which si rectangle of size 50*60 nanometers. This could be good metric, just call this technology "3000nm technology".

If iPhone/Android is any guide, ARM on Windows will trail for some time, but will be much cheaper, with tens of major vendors selling it, and sooner rather then later it will catch up with Apple simply by being enormous ecosystem. Apple will be satisfied with major part of high-end, most profitable part of the market

8K is way better then 4K for monitors, if you are supposed to read text on it. Check your mobile phone on why higher DPI is good for your eyes. I think even 12K on 40" monitors will make sense compared to 8K, regarding text rendering quality. 8K on 40" translates to same DPI as FullHD on 10" tablet, which is good, but not great.

An anonymous reader shares a report: As more and more people desire higher-quality video communication over internet while working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for webcams has increased dramatically, triggering incredibly high prices, sometimes three to four times over MSRP. And that's if you can find one at all. To help bridge a growing gap, Canon has announced the release of the EOS Webcam Utility Beta, a program for that will, with a single USB cable, turn compatible Canon EOS interchangeable lens cameras (ILCs) and PowerShot cameras into dedicated webcams on PCs running the 64-bit version of Windows 10. "In unprecedented times, it's imperative for Canon to provide our customers with useful, simple and accessible solutions to assist them in whatever imaging needs they have," said Tatsuro Kano, executive vice president of the Canon U.S.A., Inc. Imaging Technologies & Communications Group in the press release.
