Comment Re:Let's cast shade across the oceans, WCGW? (Score 1) 60

I don't disagree that there are large areas of the oceans where there is minimal life, but the north and south Atlantic, the north Pacific, and equatorial regions are not deserts in terms of their photosynthetic activity.

It's seems pretty unlikely that a geoengineering project such as this would be able to prevent the clouds from floating over the productive areas.

Now that Wall Street is on board, there is a vanishingly small probability it will be banned in the US, but maybe you're talking about some other dictatorship that feels threatened by its utility?

Bitcoin surpassed its previous all time high on March 5, reaching over $69,000. It then fell to just over $59,000 in a few hours, shaving nearly $10,000 off its price, before it regained to its upward momentum.

On March 13, it reached about $73,700 before retreating again, marching down to a local low of under $60,800 a week later. It saw two daily price swings over $5,000 in that time frame, one down and one up.

For reference, the price on January 1, 2024 was about $42,200, so the price has risen over 50% YTD.

Submission + - Starlink cuts P99 latency by 60%, deploys FQ_Codel on WiFi (starlink.com)

mtaht writes: Starlink has set itself a goal of 20ms latency across their entire LEO network, and published an update as to how far they have come, and how far they are going, tackling "Dumb stuff driven by non-physical limitations in our system" – "unneeded processing delays, unoptimized buffers, or unnecessary packet drops that force retries. Buffers across our network have been right sized to reduce bufferbloat, and queueing algorithms have been improved to increase capacity on our gateway links from the ground to satellites. Our WiFi latency has been improved, with the addition of active queue management, fq_codel, to the Starlink WiFi router. With active queue management enabled, when one person on your WiFi is downloading a big file, and another is playing a game, the game latency will not be affected by the download".

Submission + - Craig Wright unable to define an unsigned integer in Satoshi identity trial

FuzzMaster writes: Craig Wright, on the witness stand in his COPA vs Wright trial in the UK, failed to define an unsigned integer.

One of the most glaring examples of Wright’s ineptitude came to light during questioning about basic coding principles. As per sources, when he was asked about “unsigned integers,” a foundational concept in computer science, Wright faltered. Exposing a shocking lack of understanding. This is similar to a purported mathematician being unable to explain multiplication.
