I never ran into software compatibility problems with my 1000 (for non-game software), but it sucked that Tandy essentially put an EGA adapter in it, but then modified it enough that EGA software wouldn't work with it..

I've seen several comments for Plex and XMBC, both of which don't require one to "break out a circuit board and build their own solution." In the case of Plex, you don't have to 'break out a keyboard every time they want to watch a movie," either. In the case of Android, WP8, and IOS there are apps that can be downloaded that will act as a remote for the Plex Home Theater (which would be installed on a PC connected to your TV). Not everyone may want to sit down and use their phone/tablet to start a movie, but I don't see it as being too different from using a normal TV/media player remote...

It's interesting that you're so negative toward Plex and XBMC. My brother and a friend of his use XBMC with zero issues (even their wives, who aren't terribly computer literate, have no problems using it), and they've not run into any media it won't play. I have similar experience with Plex (and have been trying to get them to convert).

That's good to hear. Each attic or rarely used closet doesn't need a $30 light bulb when a 30 cent light bulb will do just fine.
Using CFLs in such roles wastes 95% of the resources used to make them.
OR, it's an excellent use of them. Since they're used so rarely, it should be *years and years* before they need to be replaced... Also, a CFL or LED bulb for a closet or attic would cost less than half of your ridiculous statement of $30... Hell, the currently available Cree 60w 2700k bulbs for $10 at Home Depot would be fine for both cases, and CFL's are available for a few bucks (or less)...
Also my ceiling fans have built in dimmers. Other than the one fan/light we use often, it would be stupid and wasteful to throw out all our ceiling
fans and buy entire new ones just to have a CFL capable dimmer.
Dimmable CFL and LED bulbs exist -- my house has multiple of both, and they're the same price (or within a few dollars) of their non-dimmable counterparts.
I, personally, watch very little on the 'big four' networks, however this trend is a disturbing one -- especially for those of us in markets that aren't served by all the networks. My market has no NBC, so the only way for us to get their content is to wait for it on their web page, or to pay someone. We have no other legal choices...

I don't understand how people like Simon Hackett can't get their ideas heard by their government (the same thing happens in the US government, unfortunately). I watched his video a while back and it highlighted how much waste / over engineering was going into their NBN, and his ideas to simplify the service would considerably reduce the cost...
