Comment Missing child not a public safety issue (Score 1) 325

First if all, what happened to anonymity for minors in legal matters? They named the kid in the alerts! Secondly, how is this a public safety issue? I think its a wonderful thing that we can have a public broadcast alert system that will warn me of imminent threats to public safety such as tornadoes, terrorism, or big rocks falling from space. But a missing child does not qualify as a public safety issue in my opinion.

Most software sucks ass because its rushed out the door before its ready. Software must be the only business that requires you to purchase a subscription to be able to receive patches that fix the shitty software you already paid for. What a bloody scam! Why cant we have quality software?

So very true. Unfortunately I dont see an end to this. Unless we can drastically improve our education systems to find talent and train it for real world tech jobs I think weve pretty much reached peak skill level. Tech is HARD and MOST PEOPLE suck at it. We need more people who DONT SUCK but alas, the breeding rate among morons is much higher than intelligent folks, because well, breeding isnt really the smartest thing to do is it? So many people get into tech because there are plenty of jobs and the pay is decent. These are all the wrong reasons and these people should be marginalized and flushed out of the system so we can focus our energy on developing the people who are actually capable of getting the work done efficiently and with a good amount of quality.

Submission + - Your Phone's on Lockdown. Enjoy the Show.

HughPickens.com writes: The NYT reports that more artists are discovering a technology called Yondr. Fans are required to place their cellphones into Yondr’s form-fitting lockable pouch when entering the show, and a disk mechanism unlocks it on the way out. Fans keep the pouch with them, but it is impossible to snap pictures, shoot videos or send text messages during the performance while the pouch is locked. “I know my show is protected, and it empowers me to be more honest and open with the audience,” says Dave Chappelle who insists on deploying Yondr at all of his shows. Other entertainers have since used Yondr, including Alicia Keys, Guns N’ Roses, and Maxwell, and the actor, musician and comedian Donald Glover, who goes by the stage name Childish Gambino. Chad Taylor, who manages Mr. Glover, among others, says, “It’s hard to meet people in the room when you’re busy texting friends who aren’t there. It’s hard to enjoy a concert experience when you’re looking at it through an iPhone camera and trying to get the best shot.”

But some fans object to not being able to disseminate and see live shows via videotape. “The ability to see it happening live” from the comfort of your living room “is incredible,” says Chris Kooluris of Manhattan, a hard-core music fan who has been to dozens of live shows and watched others online through Periscope, Twitter’s video feature. “In this day and age, my phone is how I keep my memory,” says Gerard Little. “Chris Brown. Jason Derulo. I have their footage on my phone. If you don’t want your music heard, then don’t perform it.” Andrea Ostolaza says she wants to share the concert with her friends who couldn’t get in. “If it doesn’t have a flash or light, I don’t feel like it’s disrupting."

We all benefit from others being vaccinated, and being that it is more or less mandatory we should (but currently do not) have a compensation program in place for those who suffer from vaccine injury. In fact we gave a precedent set by the Supreme Court of Canada that the state cannot be held responsible. https://scc-csc.lexum.com/scc-...

Yes it was a bad analogy, what i meant to say was the licencing is necessary to ensure quality of service but the exorbitant licencing fees are not necessary. The spectrum licenses are sold to the highest bidder (for billions of dollars) the cost of which is passed on to the consumer, which is literally taxing end users on thin air.
