Today its 20 years ago that Linus Torvalds send a little message to a Minix diskussions group:
I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing since April, and is starting to get ready. I'd like any feedback on things people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat (same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons) among other things).

This is so stupid: if the rocks that had the water/ice in them came from outer space to form the planet Earth, then the water/ice came from rocks in outer space in the first place, then came from within Earth.
The water/ice still came from rocks in outer space whether they arrived before or after the initial formation of the planet.

People work to make money. They need money to put food on the table and to pay debts. That is their primary concern for working, not for completing a project. The project is just secondary to them. Therefore, it either gets done or it doesn't. Seeing as how the people of NYC have been healing since 2001, it isn't a surprise that they haven't put more time and effort into the work that they do, since they need the money to stay sane in order to work at all.

It's usually out in extreme rural areas, where cold and warm fronts usually push against each other. Northwest Iowa is a perfect example, up near South Dakota and Minnesota.

In return, Cisco has agreed to donate monetarily to the FSF, as well as appointing a Free Software Director for Linksys. If a peace officer puts handcuffs on you, you're under arrest, period.
Not 100% true. A peace officer, if alone, can and will place the cuffs on someone in order to temporarily detain them in order to perform a warranted search. When the search is over, as long as nothing was found wrong with the search, the officer will likely remove the cuffs and let the person go.
