Comment I found a solution for myself... (Score 1) 59

They increased Family price for us to €19 (+2€) in February. I'm going to stay without Premium for the whole of May to get to the same price level annually. I'll be forcing myself to Youtube Music during that month, which comes with Youtube Premium that I already have anyway. Will see if I even come back in June. Good job, greedy Spotify.

When it becomes pointless to create own phone and app store because no one would buy and use them, this option is literally not available. Which in turn forces you accept terms that are one-sided. That is where anti-monopoly mechanisms kick in. These activities to scrutinize Apple and Google that we hear about lately are the results of the governments recognizing that consumers and business are being heavily disadvantaged by the monopolistic behavior of Apple and Google.

What they don't mention is the cost or rather missed profits of having no such software in the first place. Yes you might have business running on 20 years old MS Access database and it might be expensive to maintain or replace it, but you cannot deny the value said software generated during these years.

This is applicable to all parts of the technical depth the IT world has to carry. It generates more value than its amortized cost. Otherwise it gets replaces, always.

Keep in mind that this is the same company that asserted full ownership of source code of the most popular open-source web server product Nginx, which led to arrests of the original author and police raids in the Nginx (sold to F5 Networks in March 2019) office.
