In my house, gaming is a family thing. My wife and I fire up the Nintendo and have a few games with the kids (or wait until they're asleep and play a game without them). Games that require one console per player just aren't an option. It's nice that Mario Kart 8 even allows two people to play online with one console.

Exactly I too am happy to have a gamer wife.

We would LOVE it if Skyrim or DAI allowed for 2 player...

Instead one plays and the other is playing lookout.

The issue with age discrimination is from experience with that older fellow who is just coasting to retirement not willing to learn or change, and has been in the same position for decades. Trust me. Coding Circles around them is not that tough.

Take away their IDE/Eclipse and tell them to use Vi/Ant to fix a software problem and their heads explode.

No. This is about making API compatible calls. Plain and simple.

Can/Should Oracle be able to copyright something like these ?

No. And I thought this had already been solved with C Header files.

Not to mention, Companies. Would you want your internal documents stored on Google Cloud where it could be "read" or even sent to a 3rd party ?

The answer appears to be a resounding "Yes, as long as you don't force me to consider the implications."

I think you'll find that today, the majority of corporate IP from the western world has found its way onto the Google Cloud. When corporations lock things down so tight that it becomes a day's endeavor to send a spreadsheet from one office to another in a large corporation, people tend to give up and use gmail. When you're a small shop and can't afford the resiliency that's a requirement in this day and age, you're willing to risk the perceived small chance of losing your IP for the pure fact that you can afford to do business using Google Cloud.

So would you "want" your documents stored there? Probably not. When it comes to pragmatism however, most companies and/or at least a few employees let pragmatism win out over privacy concerns.

That would be nice.. But my company DOES care. They block access to Goggle Drive and DropBox type sites (and you can be fired if you send emails with corporate docs to other sites/people).

So much for wanting equality. All women want to do is use men for their wallets, and then when they start losing their ability to do so because they are losing their beauty, they settle down with the stable guys they've rejected their whole lives.

Then you're dating the wrong women. My wife isn't that way. She doesn't have a real diamond engagement ring (and she know it - she'd have killed me for spending $ 2+K on a ring.)

Idk, my girlfriend of five years just spend all weekend (approx 30 hours of game time) playing Path of Exile with me, in the new 1 month challenge league.

She's been having me teach her things so she can improve in League of Legends, and wants to get as good as I am so we can duoqueue together in ranked.

There definitely are girls out there who are looking for nerds/gamers. The problem is most of them are subjected to so many supercreepy "oh there's a girl in voice chat in this raid I'm going to queue my mic and begin masturbating" and "white knight everything she says or does and follow her around like a puppy dog" type "gamer guys" that they're terrified of going anywhere near the rest of us nerds.

I got lucky and found a girl who had been sheltered from online gaming, she had only played Nintendo games prior to meeting me.

If nerds/gamers want to find women who won't reject them, they need to stop being awful people to every girl playing games first. Once gamer girls feel safe actually admitting to being girls in games online, gamer guys won't be rejected en masse by them anymore.

My wife and I game too (Notice - I said WIFE). We've been married for almost 24 years.

We love games like DAI/Skyrim - She plays as a thief, I as a Warrior. And we like watching how the other solves issues (with totally different techniques too ).

And the gamer guys need to stop believeing that they're never going to find someone (Well.. if you don't LOOK for a person, you can't find them)

And like you said, Instead of treating them like "noobs"/etc. Or making childish/gamergate type comments, and start offering advice "You keep doing YYYYY and that usually causes you to get killed. Try doing ZZZZZZ instead. It might help you keep from dying as quickly."

Batteries are being integrated, but its slow. the ISOs/RTOs need to figure out how to incorporate them into their market systems (and how to pay people, etc.)

Comment Re:Talk about creating a demand (Score 1) 334

There are other -- probably cheaper -- solutions for local storage than batteries.

A couple of off-the-cuff examples: lifting a very large weight with your excess electricity, then running a generator with it during peak loads or periods. (Did I say VERY large weight?)

Another would be pumped hydro storage. Build a -- yet again very large -- tank at a height. During excess generation periods, use the electricity to pump water into the tank. During peak periods, use the water to turn a generator and reclaim the electricity.

All such systems have inefficiencies, even batteries. But pumped storage and other such solutions are used on a very large scale today... and should be quite workable for the small scale as well. Another advantage of pumped storage is that you now have a nice, big, full water tank with gravity feed in case of zombie apocalypse or whatever.

There actually exist things like this here in Mass. There is a glacial pool that was dug in a mountain near the Connecticut River. During the night, they pump water into the basin and during the day, they let the water flow through turbines.
